Is GATE compulsory for IIT Madras Ph.D admission?
For regular HTRA candidates, most streams ask for a valid GATE score or a fellowship qualification such as UGC-JRF, NET or CSIR-JRF. There are exemptions, for example for IIT M.Sc. (JAM entry) graduates with 8.0 CGPA or above. A GATE score may not be needed for Staff, QIP and External scholars. Check your department's clause in the brochure.
Can I apply for IIT Madras Direct Ph.D after B.Tech?
Yes. A B.Tech. graduate from a CFTI with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 or a valid GATE score can apply. B.Tech. graduates from other universities need a CGPA of at least 8.0 and a valid GATE score, unless applying under the External category with research experience.
What is the application fee for IIT Madras Ph.D and MS admission?
The fee is Rs. 1,000 for GN/EWS/OBC-NCL male and transgender candidates. It is Rs. 500 for GN/EWS/OBC-NCL female, SC/ST and PwD candidates. The fee is non-refundable.
Can I apply to more than one department?
Yes, if you meet the eligibility criteria of each. You must submit a separate application and pay a separate fee for each department or programme.
