PM Internship Scheme (PMIS)

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India, administered by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Launched to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world work experience, the scheme places young Indians inside India's top 500 companies (by CSR expenditure) for a full 12-month internship period.

The scheme aims to create 1 crore internship opportunities over five years, making it one of the largest government-backed internship programmes in the world. Interns gain hands-on exposure across sectors including manufacturing, services, technology, and social development, while receiving financial support throughout the internship.

PMIS runs entirely online through the official portal — pminternship.mca.gov.in. The scheme is designed to be inclusive, covering candidates from diverse educational backgrounds ranging from 10th pass to graduates, and specifically targets youth from economically weaker sections with a family income cap of ₹8 lakh per annum.

• Age: 18 to 25 years as on the date of application
• Education: Minimum 10th pass — candidates with 12th, ITI, Diploma, Polytechnic, Graduate, or Postgraduate qualifications are all eligible
• Annual family income must not exceed ₹8 lakh from all sources
• Must be an Indian citizen
• Should not be employed full-time at the time of application
• Should not be enrolled in any full-time educational programme at the time of internship commencement
• Final-year students who will complete their course before the internship start date are eligible

1. Visit the official PM Internship Scheme portal at pminternship.mca.gov.in
2. Click on "Register" under the Candidate/Student section
3. Provide your mobile number, email ID, Aadhaar number, and basic personal details to create an account
4. Complete your profile by filling in educational qualifications, location preference, sector of interest, and relevant skills
5. Browse available internship opportunities listed by participating companies
6. Apply to internships that match your profile and preferences
7. Track your application status through the portal dashboard
8. If shortlisted, attend the company's selection process (interview/assessment)
9. Upon selection, complete the joining formalities and begin your 12-month internship

Note: There is no application fee. Ensure your Aadhaar is seeded with your bank account, as all financial assistance is transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Selection is done by host companies based on candidate profiles. The government portal matches candidates with relevant opportunities. Companies may conduct interviews or assessments. Priority is given to candidates from economically weaker sections, SC/ST/OBC categories, and those from rural areas.
