Q1. What is the exact difference between Refrigerator and an air conditioner?
 
ANS:

Refrigerator maintains lower temperature below atmospheric temperature where as AC maintains temperature as well as humidity of a specified specification.


Q2. What is a four stroke engine?

ANS:

A four-stroke engine (also known as four cycle) is an internal combustion (IC) engine in which the piston completes four separate strokes while turning a crankshaft. A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston along the cylinder, in either direction.


Q3. What is the difference between pinion and gear?

ANS:

The Pinion is the power transmitter and the gear wheel is the receiver where we will get the speed reduction.


Q4. If we design a car what factors should be kept in the mind. Drag force or the tyre shape or about the centrifugal force? What should be the turning radius?

ANS:

In car Designing, its airo-dynamic shape play important role. Other factors are center of gravity, air drag, centrifugal force & many others.


Q5. What is a stroke? What is the unit of stroke?

ANS:

Stroke = the drift or displacement or a blow of a substance under gentle pressure. In case of IC engine, the piston inside the combustion cylinder displaces no. of times depending upon the gas cycles.


Q6. How many types of gear boxes are there?

ANS:

There are 4 types of gear box.
1. sliding mesh gear box.
2.constant mesh gear box.
3.synchromesh gear box.
4.planetarty gear box.


Q7. What is the difference between Production and Manufacturing?

ANS:

The process of conversion raw material to final product call manufacturing & total number of products manufactured is called production, actually Manufacturing is the part of production cycle.

Q9. How to calculate CC of Motor Bike?

ANS:

CC of motor bike is depends upon the piston displacement inside the engine cylinder. Area between top dead center and bottom dead dead center is the actual CC of motor bike engine.


Q10. How to calculate the weight of a thin plate of sheet and a tube?

ANS:

Weight of any shape can be calculated by multiplying its volume with density of material.


Q11. What is the energy required to break the material is called as?

ANS:

A material withstands upto its shear stress. Beyond that, impact energy breaks the material.


Q12. Why condenser is needed in steam power plant?

ANS:

In steam power plant pump can compress only one type of phase either liquids or gases. Work done required to pump is directly proportional to volume of fluid has to compressed as we know that specific volume of water is less than specific volume of steam so to reduced pump work we used condenser


Q13. Why steels are heat treatable and why not cast irons? If yes why?

ANS:

Steel is an Iron/Carbon Alloy for arguments sake. So the carbon is fully absorbed within the Iron. The carbon and iron re-settle in a various atomic micro-structures when heated and cooled down quickly.


Q14. With increasing temperature of intake air IC engine efficiency will increase or decrease? Explain.

ANS:

ICE has many efficiencies:

1) Indicated thermal efficiency
2) Break thermal Efficiency
3) Volumetric Efficiency
4) Relative efficiency

With Increasing the Inlet temperature the density of air decrease, so volumetric efficiency, one of the most important parameters in ICE will be affected by the inlet gas temperature.

It will increase to some value then decrease if the inlet air temperature increases to high values as the density of the air decrease. 

The modern designs make the Exhaust manifold close to the intake manifold to increase the inlet gas temperature, that leads to make the combustion easier only at some designed values. Specially in the SIE the evaporation will faster and more efficient.


Q15. Though units for pressure and stress are same (i.e N/mm2), what is the difference between stress and pressure?

ANS:

Stress is restoring force developed in the body due to any tensile, compressive or any other force per unit area and on the other hand pressure is force applied on a body per unit area.
