Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below. Certain words/phrases have been printed in bold to help you locate them.

The European Union’s Ambassador to New Delhi, Joao Cravinho, last week expressed keenness to pursue the India-EU Free Trade Agreement talks. The desire is mutual. Despite the vigorous pace that the Narendra Modi government has marked in the matter of foreign relations in general, this process has remained in suspended animation for two years now. Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman had assured the Ambassador in March of India’s willingness to resume talks. As Mr. Cravinho mentioned, the meeting of the OECD countries scheduled for June offers an opportunity for both sides to draw up a road map. The EU identified India as a ‘strategic partner’ in 2004. A Joint Action Plan was signed in 2005 and negotiations on the proposed Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA) were launched in June 2007. Eight years down the line, some contentious issues still remain. In the backdrop of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France and Germany in April came the cancellation of the India-EU summit, apparently for “logistical” reasons. Issues such as the EU ban on import of mangoes from India announced in May 2014, and the legal proceedings in India involving the Italian Marines, are also factors that have left the relationship strained.

The EU is one of India’s largest trading partners and a major source of FDI. The value of EU-India trade grew from €28.6 billion in 2003 to €72.5 billion in 2014, while trade in commercial services rose from €5.2 billion in 2002 to €23.7 billion in 2013. India has concluded agreements with ASEAN, Japan, Singapore and Korea. With the EU the scale of the deal is more ambitious, and consequently the disagreements. For instance, the EU is unhappy with India’s protectionism in the automobile sector, and wants steep cuts in duties, and tariff cuts in things such as wine, spirits and dairy products. But tariff cuts in the agricultural sector would mean Europe’s heavily subsidised agro industry will dump its surplus here, hitting Indian farmers. India’s generic drug market also raises intellectual property concerns for European pharmaceutical corporations. India, on the other hand, is unhappy with the EU not recognising it as a “data secure nation”, and with what the EU has to offer in the area of IT/BPO/KPO services (Mode 1) and the movement of skilled professionals (Mode 4). But the EU is no doubt keen on partnering with India in programmes such as Make in India, Swachh Bharat and Smart City projects. Another criticism levelled against the FTA talks has been over lack of transparency and inadequate consultations with civil society participants. These concerns will also have to be remedied in future rounds of dialogue. It is to be hoped that the whole process would now gain momentum and lead to a negotiated deal.

11. What does the author mean by the phrase “India’s protectionism in the automobile sector”?

12. Find the value of 0.19x0.19 + 1.81x1.81 + 2x0.3439 = ?

Solution is:
Given 0.19x0.19 + 1.81x1.81 + 2x0.3439
Formula reference : a2 + b2 + 2 x a x b = ( a + b )2
= ( 0.19 )2+( 1.81 )2+ 2 x ( 0.19 ) x ( 1.81 )
= ( 0.19 + 1.81 )2
= ( 2 )2
= 4

13. Two dice are thrown simultaneously. What is the probability that the sum of the two numbers appear on the top of the dice is 7.

Explanation:

Sample Space, S = { (1,1) , (1,2) , (1,3) , ... (6,6) } n(S) = 6 x 6 = 36 possible cases. E = {(x,y) / such that x+y=7} E = {(1,6) , (2,5) , (3,4) , (4,3) , (5,2) , (6,1)} => n(E)=6 P(E) = n(E)/n(S) = 6 / 36 = 1/4

A word and number arrangement machine when given an input line of words and numbers rearranges

them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and rearrangement.

Input: go now 53 39 18 for again 66

Step 1 : 66 go now 53 39 18 for again

Step 2 : 66 again go now 53 39 18 for

Step 3 : 66 again 53 go now 39 18 for

Step 4 : 66 again 53 for go now 39 18

Step 5 : 66 again 53 for 39 go now 18

Step 6 : 66 again 53 for 39 go now 18

Step 7 : 66 again 53 for 39 go 18 now

As per the rule followed in the following questions the appropriate step for the given input.

14. Step 4 of an input is: 58 box 47 dew 15 21 town pot

Which of the steps will be the last?

Explanation:

Solution is:
After careful analysis of the input and various steps of rearrangement , it is evident that in the first step one number is arranged and in the second step one word is arranged. These two steps are continued alternately till all thenumbersget arranged indescending orderand all thewordsget arranged inalphabetical order.

Step 4: 58 box 47 dew 15 21 town pot
Step 5: 58 box 47 dew 21 15 town pot
Step 6: 58 box 47 dew 21 pot 15 town
Hence step 6 is the last step

15. A man performs 1/4 of the total journey by car, 2/3 by bus and the remaining 27 km by train. His total journey is ?

Explanation:

Solution is
Given

Let the total journey be x Kms.
Journey covered by car = x / 4
Journey covered by bus = 2x / 3
Journey covered by train = 27 km
(x / 4) + (2x / 3) + 27 = x
x - (x / 4) - (2x / 3) = 27
=> ( 12x - 3x - 8x ) / 12 = 27
=> x / 12 = 27
=> x = 12 x 27
x = 324
His total journey= 324 kms

Explanation:

13.9 + 9.99 / 4.9 * 6.99 - 4.9 = 14 + 10/5 * 7 - 5 = 14 + 2 * 7 - 5 = 14 + 14 - 5 = 23

22. A hall is 15 m long and 12 m broad. If the sum of the areas of the floor and the ceiling is equal to the sum of the areas of four walls, the volume of the hall is

Explanation:

Solution is
Let , A hall is in the shape of cuboid as follows
Given l = 15 m
b = 12 m

Area of the floor [ since floor is in rectangular shape, we use area of rectangle ]
= l x b
= 15 x 12
Area of ceiling [ since ceiling is in rectangular shape, we use area of rectangle ]
= l x b
= 15 x 12
Sum of the Areas of four walls = 2 ( l + b ) * h
= 2 ( 15 + 12 ) * h
= 2 ( 27 ) * h
= 54 * h
Given ,
Ceiling of four walls = Area of the floor + Area of the sum of areas of four walls
=> ( 15 x 2 ) + ( 15 x 2 ) = 54 * h
=>2 ( 15 x 12 ) = 54 * h
=> 2 ( 180 ) = 54 * h
=> 360 = 54 * h
=> 360 / 54 = h
Volume of the hall = Volume of cuboid
= l x b x h
= 15 x 12 x ( 20 / 3)
= 5 x 12 x 20
= 1200 m3

=>l2x b2x h2 = 21 x 24 x 14
=>(l x b x h )2 =$\fn_jvn \sqrt{21 x 24 x 14}$
=$\fn_jvn \sqrt{(7 x 3) x (2 x 2x 2 x 3) x (7 x 2)}$
= 7 x 3 x 2 x 2
= 84
Volume of cuboid =l x b x h = 84 cm3
