McIlroy bagged the European Tour Golfer of the Year award after a panel consisting of members of the golfing media unanimously voted for him as the 2015 winner.

Previously, McIlroy was named the European Tour Golfer of the Year in 2014 and 2012.

Who is Rory McIlroy?

Born on 4 May 1989, Rory McIlroy is a Northern Irish professional golfer from Holywood in County Down who is a member of both the European and PGA Tours.

Currently World No. 3, he was World No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking for 95 weeks.

He is a four-time major champion, winning the 2011 U.S Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship, and 2014 PGA Championship. He is the first European to win three different majors.

In 2011 and 2014, he was named RTÉ Sports Person of the Year.

In 2012, he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year Honours for services to sport.
