Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 December 2015 returned to New Delhi after conclusion of his official visit to Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

During his 3-day visit that started on 23 December 2015, Modi met heads of governments of three nations.

Major Highlights of the visit to Russia

• Modi was in Russian for two days starting from 23 December 2015.
• He along with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, participated in the 16th India-Russia Annual Summit.
• After successful completion of the dialogue both the countries signed 16 Agreements/MoUs covering critical areas like energy, education, security, research and development.
• He visited Russia’s National Crisis Management Centre (NCMC), also known as EMERCOM, in Moscow.
• He participated and addressed CEOs forum and invited investments to leverage the potential of Make In India initiative.
• During a tête-à-tête, Putin gifted an 18th century sword from Bengal and page from Gandhiji’s diary containing handwritten notes to Modi

Major Highlights of the visit to Afghanistan

• He met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and discussed issues related to security and bilateral cooperation.
He inaugurated Afghan Parliament House, on 25 December 2015, which was entirely built by India.
• He announced 500 scholarships for children of slain Afghan forces.
• He handed over three Mi 25 attack helicopters to Afghanistan Armed Forces.

After his visit to Afghanistan, he briefly stopped over in Pakistan. In Lahore, he met the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

With this visit, he became the fourth Prime Minister to visit Pakistanin the post independence period. The previous visits were by Jawaharlal Nehru (1953), Rajiv Gandhi (1988) and Atal Bihari Vajpayee (2004).
