Mizoram became 23rd state of India on this day

Mizoram became the 23rd state of India on February 20, 1987. It was officially recognised as a state after the accord signed between the Mizo National Front and the Union Government in 1986. Prior to this, in 1972, the land of the Mizo people was given the more culturally inclusive name ‘Mizoram’ and recognised as a union territory.
