In China, sexual assault of men was declared a crime with effective from 31 October 2015. In this regard, an amendment to sexual assault laws was approved by the National People’s Congress, country’s central legislature, in August 2015.

As per the amendment, indecent assault on others, men or women, now carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison.

The amendment to criminal laws became necessary to curtail growing incidents of sexual assault on men by women.

Earlier, female offenders were punished under the charges of intentional injury, not taking into account the gender of perpetrator in question and were given punishment up to 12 months in prison.
