FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology at the prepaid account linked to it. The windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas.

What is FASTag ? 

FASTag is an electronic tollway collection system in India. It is operated by the National Highway Authority of India. It has an automatic deduction of toll charges and lets you pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction. It is linked to a prepaid account the applicable toll amount is deducted. The tag employs Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology and is affixed on the vehicle's windscreen after the tag account is active. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that FASTags will become mandatory for all vehicles, private and commercial, from December 15. 
It has a validity of 5 years all you only need to recharge/ top up the FASTag as per your requirement.

Why Fastag is introduced?

Road Transport Corporation of India and the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta launched by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari estimated the cost of delay on Indian roads at $6.6 billion per year. The cost of additional fuel consumption due to delays at $14.7 billion per year. India should move towards electronic toll collection, which would not only reduce congestion and queues at toll plazas also reduce operating costs for toll operators and plug revenue leakages.

How does FASTag work?

FASTag depends on RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology to recognize the vehicle passing through a toll lane. The tag identifies the vehicle pass by and records details such as the vehicle class and status of the tag. The tag is connected to your bank account where the automatic deduction of toll charges. The tag fixed on the windscreen of your vehicle allows for direct deduction of toll charges from your prepaid or savings account.

How to buy Fastag?

FASTags are issued by 22 certified banks such as Point-of-Sale (POS) at National Highway toll plazas and select bank branches. They are also available on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon pay.

What are the documents needed for FASTag:

People who are in need of FASTag to carry out the following documents which are given below.
  • Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle.
  • Passport size photograph of the vehicle owner
  • KYC documents as per the category of the vehicle owner (viz. Individual / corporate)
ID proof and Address proof from the list mentioned and 1 passport size photograph.
  • Driving License
  • PAN Card
  • Passport
  • Voter ID Card
  • Aadhar Card (with address)
