Jeremy Howe, Collingwood's vice-captain, has undergone surgery after suffering a horrific injury during the AFL match. The star defender was stretchered off the MCG and taken to the hospital due to a broken forearm. In the early stages of the third quarter of the game against Geelong, Howe collided with Tyson Stengle while trying to spoil the ball, and landed awkwardly on his left arm as he tried to brace for contact with the ground. Collingwood trainers rushed onto the field to assist Howe, who was lying on the turf in excruciating pain, and the play was stopped for around seven minutes.
