Scottish football player William Marshall Thomson was a goalkeeper. In addition to Partick Thistle and St. Mirren, Thomson also played for Dundee United, Clydebank, Motherwell, Rangers, and Dundee. In two Scottish Cup finals and the 1987 UEFA Cup Final, he represented Dundee United. Between 1980 and 1983, he represented Scotland in seven international matches.

Thomson coached goalies for Stranraer, Kilmarnock, Rangers, and Dundee. After retiring, Thomson joined Dundee's coaching staff; in May 2001, he made his way back to Rangers as a goalkeeping coach.
