Information on JEE Main Counselling

JoSAA stands for Joint Seat Allocation Authority and it is the authorised identity to conduct JEE Main Counselling for the students. JoSAA supports and helps in seat allocation for the students in different institutions based on the preference of course and marks been obtained in the JEE examinations. Availability of seats for each course also plays a major role in JEE Main Counselling and Seat Allocation. In order to participate in JEE Main Counselling, students are required to register themselves in JoSAA. Registration for counselling is possible through online mode. JEE Main Counselling involves few mock rounds followed by seven main rounds where the students get their seats allocated. What are the Important Dates of JEE Main Counselling 2019?

Once all the JEE Main 2019 exams are completed, students will receive the results. Total computed marks after deducting the negative marks will be arrived. Students then have to register themselves online for JEE Main Counselling at the provided dates. They will be called for the mock test and main rounds, after which students are allocated their seats. What is the Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main Counselling?

Through JEE Main Counselling, students arrive at their preferred courses in the reputed institutions’ available seats. Only students who are registered for JEE Main Counselling are allocated for the seats in different institution through counselling procedure. To apply for JEE Main Counselling, candidates should satisfy the below given eligibility criteria.

For B.Tech Course

  • Candidates should have scored the required cut off marks in JEE Main Examination.
  • Candidates should have completed 12th Class or equivalent examination with all the major subjects namely Physics, Maths and Chemistry or Biology or Biotechnology or Technical Vocational Subject.
  • For IIT, NIT, GFTIs one should have scored at least 75% for general category and for OBC, they should have minimum 65%

For B.Arch Course

  • Cut Off marks in JEE Main Examination must be secured.
  • 12th class or equivalent exam should be completed.
  • For IIT, NIT, GFTIs one should have scored at least 75% for general category and for OBC, they should have minimum 65% in all five subjects including Mathematics.

What are the Different Stages in JEE Main Counselling?

JEE Main Counselling involves different stages in the process of seat allotment for the candidates. Candidates who are scoring the cut off marks will be eligible to enter counselling and undergo the different stages of the process. JEE Main Counselling different stages are listed and explained below.
1. Registration 
JEE Main Counselling registration is free and it should be done online. Students should register through the official website using their JEE Main exam roll number and password. This is the initial step involved in the process of JEE Main Counselling.
2. Choice filling
Students should give their preference of institutions which they like to enter into. The most preferred institution must be mentioned as first in the list and followed by the institutions of their priority. 
3. Seat allotment and announcement of rank list
According to the candidates’ scores and rank, JoSAA will allocate the seat for the students in the institutions. The rank list will be displayed online.
4. Allotment letter and seat acceptance
Student should report their acceptance of the seat by paying the seat acceptance fee through SBI net banking or e-challan. The acceptance fee is Rs.45000 for students belonging to general category and Rs.20000 for other students.
5. Document verification
For the process to be proceeded, students should provide their documents which are necessary. If documents are not properly submitted, there is a chance for cancellation of the alloted seat. Provisional seat allocation letter must be downloaded and printed. The necessary documents are listed below.

  • JEE Main Rank Card
  • Marksheet of 10th and 12th class
  • JEE Main Counselling Form
  • JEE Main Admit Card
  • Passport size photo -2
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • Category certificate, if required

6. Reporting at allotted institutions
Once all the procedure of counselling is over, student should report at the institution in which he or she is allotted to.
