New Update 16-02-2021: GMAT Syllabus 2021 - Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) has prescribed the GMAT Syllabus 2021 for candidates going to appear in the management entrance test. The GMAT Syllabus 2021 consist of four broad sections like Analytically Writing Assessment (AWA), Integrated Reasoning (IR), Quantitative and Verbal. Each section of GMAT Syllabus 2021 will have separate time limits. Overall, the GMAT duration is 3-hour 30 min including the timings breaks and tutorials. The breaks that are given during the test are optional and are of 8 minutes. The GMAT 2021 is an online computer-based test, and for a better preparation of the exam, it is imperative for all candidates to know the details of GMAT Syllabus 2021 and other exam related modalities. GMAT syllabus 2021 for Integrated reasoning (IR)

This section particularly test the candidate’s ability to integrate a large amount of data and solve the complex problems related to this. There will be graphs, texts and numbers from which the candidates will have to synthesize the information. Candidates will have to evaluate the information achieved from different sources. The questions will also test the candidate’s ability to connect the information from different sources and solve the interrelated complex problems.

The IR section of GMAT 2021 syllabus will have a total of 12 questions and the time duration for attempting these questions will be of 30 minutes.

GMAT syllabus 2021 for Quantitative ability

There will be a total of 31 questions from this section which typically measure the candidate’s ability to apply reason mathematically, solve the quantitative problems and interpret the graphical data.

For solving questions from GMAT quantitative ability, the candidate must have the knowledge of arithmetic, elementary algebra, geometry along with the ability to apply logic and analytical skills.

Two types of questions from GMAT 2021 syllabus for quantitative

  1. Problem-solving - To test the ability to apply logic and analytical reasoning to solve the problems.

  2. Data Sufficiency - To test the candidate’s ability to analyse the quantitative problems and use the data to solve the problems. Also, there will be questions consisting of two statements, the candidate will have to apply the math skills and everyday facts to solve the problem

GMAT syllabus 2021 for Verbal

There will be a total of 36 multiple-choice questions from this part of GMAT 2021 syllabus. Verbal section tests the candidate’s ability to read and comprehend written material, evaluate arguments. The text is written in the standard English language and the candidates will be given a total of 65 minutes to attempt the section.

GMAT syllabus 2021 for verbal - types of questions

There will be 3-types of questions from the verbal section which are mentioned below.

Reading comprehension - There will be some comprehension passages intended to test the candidate’s ability to read and understand the complex sentences, understand the logical relationships. The following reading skills will be tested from the comprehension passage.

  • Style

The comprehension passage will come with a fixed number of questions which the candidate will have to answer. The theme of the passage may be related to the social sciences and humanities, physical and biological sciences, or a business-related field.

This section includes either one of the two types of Essay

Argument essay

  • In this section, the students will give a paragraph on a particular subject. The candidates have to read and extract the contradictions and irregularities presented by the author in the given passage and produce it in around 350 words.

Issue essay 

  • In this Part, the applicants have to write an essay on a given issue. The issue will provide in the form of a one or two-line statement. The test taker has to either support the statement or set a counter opinion in around 600 words. While stating their opinion, they must follow a proper organizational structure and support their views with suitable examples and logic.

Integrated Reasoning

Multi-Source Reasoning 

  • This question presented in the form of multiple tabs that the applicants can navigate among. The Section questions cover the topics from generally from critical reasoning, and sometimes quantitative reasoning might also be included.

Table Analysis 

  • A table given to the test taker along with three questions and each question will have two choices. Candidates must be able to accumulate useful data and exclude the unimportant data to solve the question in a short period.

Graphics Interpretation

  • A form of the graphic will present- either a chart or a graph. Students will have to analyze the information present in the graphic image. Two questions will ask against each graphic form, and the test taker will give a minimum of 3 answer choices, which they have to select form the dropdown menu.

Two-Part Analysis 

  • This Part question prompt provided and has a small table related to it. The test taker has to choose two answers out of 6.
