What is CAT Registration 2019?

Candidates who are willing to attend CAT Exam 2019 should fill the CAT application form before the CAT Registration ends. Hence, aspirants who fill the application form and submit it before the last date can attend the exam on 24th November 2019.  The CAT apply link will be available on the official website of CAT on August 2019. Be ready with the necessary documents to apply for CAT 2019 successfully. Before applying for CAT, aspirants are advised to check the CAT Exam eligibility to know whether they are eligible to apply for CAT or not. Following is the CAT eligibility criteria,
Candidates who have completed their graduation in any discipline from a recognised university or institute with minimum 50% marks or its equivalent (45 percent for SC, ST and PWD candidates) are eligible to apply.
Final year Bachelor’s Degree students and candidates with backlogs are also eligible to apply with the submission of the required certificate from the specified authority.

What are documents needed to keep ready while filling CAT application form?

As we know already, candidates who apply for the CAT are supposed to fill some information such as personal details, academic qualification, and so on. Hence, it’s a must to keep all the necessary documents ready to apply for CAT. The following describes the important documents to keep ready along with you before starting the CAT registration process. 

  1. Mark sheets of the following,
    • Class X
    • Class XII
  2. Bachelor’s Degree and or higher education
  3. Applicable certificates to upload such as Caste certificate and so on.
  4. Scanned images of passport size photograph and signatures as per the dimensions stated in the CAT Notification 2019. Keep your photograph with a white background which is not more than 6 months old.
  5. Decide a list of IIM programmes to apply for.

How to Apply for CAT 2019?

Looking to apply for CAT? If yes, here is the step-by-step procedure to apply for CAT 2019. Candidates who want to apply for CAT should undergo the three-step process. Let’s read the CAT 2019 registration procedure below and complete your registration process carefully.

CAT Registration

At first, aspirants need to register at the official website of CAT to generate the login credentials. After that, they need to follow the steps given below, 

  • Log on to the official website of CAT (
  • Click on the link mentioning "CAT 2019 Registration"
  • Then, fill in the required fields such as Name, Date of Birth, Email Address, and mobile number.
  • Name - The name should be same as in your 10th Standard certificate. If there is a change of name, you have to submit a valid document like a marriage certificate or court affidavit supporting the same.
  • Date of Birth - Enter your date of birth correctly.
  • Email id - Enter a valid email id to receive CAT Id or username. For overseas candidates, both username and password will be sent through an email id only, so, make sure that the entered information is correct.
  • Mobile number - For others (who reside in India), the password will be sent through SMS. The mobile number should be India-based and all the mobile numbers should be prefixed with area code.

 Fill the aforementioned details carefully to overcome further risks. After filling the details, candidates have to enter the captcha to verify and authenticate their CAT registration. Finally, select the ‘I Agree’ checkbox to be sure for the successful submission of the CAT registration form.

Login to CAT website

The next step is to log in to the official website by using the system generated user id and password. If you forget the password, click on ‘Forgot Password’ tab on the ‘Existing User’ login window and a new password will be sent to your registered email id.
Alright! Before filling the application form, let’s read some important instructions to be followed during the registration process. Candidates who apply for CAT should follow the instructions mentioned below to apply for CAT successfully. 

  • Candidates should fill all the fields that are marked as ‘*’.
  • Aspirants have to fill out all the required information in the appropriate fields and upload scanned copies of the necessary documents.
  • Candidates are advised to click ‘Save & Continue’ before moving to the next section and use Mouse to move to the next field instead of using the ‘Tab’ key
  • CAT applicants may complete the application process in various sessions by logging in for the next session. All they should do is to make sure that they have properly saved the application form fields before logging out during the previous sessions.
  • Candidates are not allowed to do any changes in the form submitted after the payment of application fee. 

Filling up CAT Application Form 

After logging in by using the given login credentials, aspirants can start filling the CAT application form. The CAT application form is divided into various sections. They are as follows, 

  • Personal Details
  • Academic details
  • Work Experience
  • IIM Programmes
  • Payment 

Personal Details
Candidates have to enter Father’s/Husband’s/Guardian’s Name and Mother’s Name and Gender.
Secondly, candidates have to select the appropriate category among Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Serial Number, State or Union Territory and Name of Caste and Tribe if they are not belonging to General category.
Select Nationality
Click on either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ for a Person With Disability (PWD) field. Candidates who apply under the PWD category should meet the Disability Percentage of more than 40 percent.
Communication address - In the address field, candidates should enter full postal address along with alternate email id and mobile number which will be used for further communication by IIMs.
Documents to be Uploaded
Candidates have to upload the following documents in support of the information provided in the application form,
Applicants are needed to upload scanned images of their passport size photo and signature whose size and dimensions should not exceed the limit stated by the CAT exam authorities. In addition to this, candidates who belong to the reserved categories have to download the appropriate category certificates from the CAT website. After that, they have to fill in the required fields and get those certificates attested by the specific authorities and upload it.

Academic Details

In this section, candidates are asked to fill their academic details. So, it’s good to keep handy all your educational certificates during filling the CAT application form. In this section, aspirants have to fill in the details of the following,

  • Class X/SSC and Class XII/HSC Equivalent Exam Scores
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree Details
  • Professional Course details if any

It is important that aspirants have to enter the board, subjects, and aggregate marks under each section.

Work Experience

After filling the academic details section, candidates have to fill the work experience if any. If the aspirants are having prior work experience or working professionals, they should enter their work experience as on July 2019, in the “number of months completed” column. Additionally, they have to enter the type of industry. Only candidates who are having full-time work experience after the completion of graduation will be applicable. However, candidates who did an internship, part-time job, and articleship should not be entered.

Choose Programmes
Applicants have to select the IIMs and full-management programmes that they would like to apply for. In addition to this, candidates are asked to select the interview location from the drop-down menu provided there. Furthermore, aspirants who apply for PGP or PGDM programmes at the IIMs given below are asked to pick the same interview city for all the selections. 

  • IIM Udaipur
  • IIM Raipur
  • IIM Ranchi
  • IIM Tiruchirappalli
  • IIM Rohtak
  • IIM Kashipur 

Exam Centre City
Candidates can select maximum of 4 exam centres from the drop-down menu. Applicants are not allowed to select the same city more than once and the exam centre will be allotted to them by the exam authorities. Candidates can get to know their exam centre city through their CAT admit card.
Pay the application fee
After filling the CAT application form, pay the mentioned application fee via net banking, credit card, and debit card. Here is the application fee for different categories,

Before completing the payment, candidates have to cross-check all the details and documents provided to avoid any errors which may not be rectified later.
Application Confirmation Email
Aspirants will get a confirmation email contains information about communication and CAT admit card details after payment of application fee. 

CAT 2019 Online Application Correction 

Once you’ve submitted your CAT application form, you’re allowed to correct only selected fields such as the percentage of marks, work experience, and programmes selected. On the other hand, you are not allowed to correct information like personal details, academic details (apart from a percentage of marks), exam city preference, and so on.

Essential Points to keep in mind:

  1. CAT Registration link will be available for almost 45 days from the date of registration begins.
  2. Candidates need to select the relevant IIM Programmes, so be prepared for that.
  3. Read the instructions carefully before filling the application form. This is because, if anything goes wrong while filling the application form, you have to register with a new email id.
  4. Candidates can save and exit the registration form as many times they want until they finally press the ‘submit’ button.
  5. Aspirants have to pay the fee only after the completion of CAT registration and application form.
  6. If the candidates do not pay the mentioned exam fee, their application form will remain incomplete until they pay the fee before the last date.
  7. Candidates belonging to General category should pay around Rs.1900/- and candidates from reserved category have to pay Rs.950/-.
