  • CAT Eligibility 2020 is important for the candidates before applying the exam. CAT Exam is a gateway to coveted IIMs and B-schools across India. It will probably conduct in the third week of November 2020, and registrations will commence in the first week of August.
  • Students have done their graduation in the old system (If UGC recognizes the degree) can appear for the exam.
  • Degree awarded to applicants by institutes must be recognized by an act of Parliament or under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1965, or recognized by MHRD.
  • CAT Aspirants appearing in their final year of graduation can also apply for the exam provided they produce their passing certificates on or before June 2021.

What is the Eligibility for CAT Exam 2020?

  • Since 2014, there is no change in CAT Eligibility Criteria 2020, except that IIM Indore had announced that it would accept candidates with a 2-years graduation course. As per the CAT eligibility criteria 2020 published by the exam convening body, candidates should have completed their graduation with 50% marks, and aspirants from reserved category should have scored 45% marks in their graduation to apply for CAT. 
  • The following are the reservation details and academic qualifications of CAT. Students who are pursuing the final year should submit a certificate from the principal/registrar of their respective universities, stating that they have done with all the requirements for acquiring the equivalent qualification at the time of the issue of the certificate.
  • Students have to qualify for a Bachelor’s degree in engineering/ technology or BE/B. Tech equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE.
  • Any qualification recognized by AIU, New Delhi, which is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree awarded by colleges/ universities recognized by UGC.
  • Students who have possessed the Master’s program may also apply with relevant work experiences. CAT Reservations to the candidates according to Caste, and PWD certificate is as dictated by the Central Government list and provision act. 
  • Applicants are required to apply with necessarily scanned copies of the caste certificate recognized in a proper format, as mentioned in the certificates and performance section on the official website of the CAT 2020.
  • There will be no age limit for attending the CAT examination.
  • Students must fill the correct category in the application form to avail of the reservation.
  • The reservation percentage is 7.5%, 15%, 27% & 5% for ST/ SC/ PBC/ PWD respectively

Can Backlog aspirants apply for CAT Exam 2020?

The most common question raised by the students who are having backlogs is whether they are eligible to apply for CAT or not. Students with academic delays can also apply. During CAT registration 2017, the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow received a lot of queries from the students regarding the CAT registration with academic backlogs. Although the IIM Lucknow did not mention that candidates with backlogs should not apply. It is expected that it will remain the same this year, too, so candidates can apply for CAT Exam 2020 and appear for the exam in November 2020.

What are the equivalent degrees to apply for CAT 2020?

Aspirants have a doubt the equivalent degrees qualified to apply for CAT Exam 2020. Candidates who are pursuing any of the equivalent degrees mentioned below are eligible to appear for CAT 2020. Here are equivalent qualifications that are valid for appearing in CAT 2020, 

  • Candidates who have completed undergraduate education in Engineering or Technology of 4-years duration in the order 10+12 or Post B.Sc. or Post Diploma are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates who have a degree, which is equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Engineering and Technology of Professional Societies recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE such as AMIE by Institution of Engineers, India, or AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers of India can apply for CAT.
  • Aspirants who have CA/CS/ICWA degree with 50% (General) and 45% (SC/ST/PWD) are eligible to apply.
  • Additionally, candidates with any other qualification that is not mentioned here can also apply by submitting an equivalency certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
  • Aspirants who have an academic qualification, which is equivalent to a bachelor's degree recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, are also eligible to apply.

What is the CAT Eligibility 2020 for Final Year Students?

As we know that, final year students from any bachelor's degree background are eligible to apply for CAT. Though, the candidate who clears their final year exam with 50% of marks is qualified for further rounds. Please note that IIMs verify the CAT exam 2020 eligibility criteria at various stages of the CAT selection procedure. Hence, it is must-have graduation with at least 50% marks if you are from general category and 45% marks are needed for candidates from SC/ST/PWD.

CAT Eligibility Criteria 2020 For candidates with work experience

As per the CAT Eligibility criteria 2020, it is not necessary to hold any work experience to apply for CAT. The work experience does not play a deciding factor in the final selection process of IIMs. However, the work experience will be given some weightage to the candidates, but that will be at the last stage of final selection by the IIMs. The weightage provided by the IIMs may vary from one to another.

Candidates who apply for CAT under the caste-based reservation should possess the following documents,

  • Candidates should upload their SC/ST/NC-OBC certificate while they fill the CAT application form.
  • Aspirants should submit their original caste certificate at the time of personal interview and admission.

What is the age limit of CAT?

There is no age limit for applying CAT. The CAT 2020 Eligibility needed to apply for CAT is that candidates should have their Bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks or its equivalent degree from the recognized university or institution.

What are the Essential certificates needed to apply for CAT Exam 2020?

Candidates who fall under the differently-abled category should upload a valid PwD/DA certificate while filling the CAT application form 2020. The reservation policy for differently-abled candidates varies from the caste-based reservation policy. They are as follows,
