  • Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to visit Siachen base camp

    Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, will today visit the Ladakh region where she will take stock of the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). She briefed about the prevailing security situation in the State and given an overview of the Counter Infiltration and Counter Militancy Operations undertaken in the recent past. She met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor NN Vohra in Srinagar last evening and discussed the security situation in the state.  

    Veteran actor Tom Alter dies at 67

    Veteran film, television and theatre actor and Padma Shri Tom Alter died at aged 67. Alter acted in over 300 movies apart from numerous TV shows, most famously as the gangster Keshav Kalsi in the hit soap opera Junoon which ran for a record five years during the 1990s. In addition to acting, Alter also ventured into direction and was a sports journalist in the 80s and 90s. Alter has written three books, one non-fiction, and two fiction, and in 2008 was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Indian government in recognition for his services to the field of arts and cinema.

    Union Government Keeps Interest Rates Unchanged on Small Savings Schemes

    The Small Saving Schemes like PPF, Kisan Vikas Patra and Sukanya Samriddhi for October-December quarter. Investments in the Public Provident Fund (PPF) scheme will fetch annual rate of 7.8 percent while Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) investments will yield 7.5 percent and mature in 115 months. The one for girl child savings, Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme will offer 8.3 percent annually. Similarly, the investment on 5-year Senior Citizens Savings Scheme will yield 8.3 percent.

    Banwarilal Purohit appointed as Tamil Nadu Governor

    Banwarilal Purohit appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Jagdish Mukhi will take the place of Purohit as the Assam governor. The appointments of five governors, including for Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, and Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands by President Ram Nath Kovind were announced.  

    India and Norway Extends Bilateral Cooperation

    India and Norway have extended bilateral cooperation in the health sector through the Norway-India Partnership Initiative for a period of three years starting 2018. Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a letter of intent recently. The Partnership Initiative now extends to Jammu and Kashmir and four other States- Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are already covered under it.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi greets nation on Dussehra to attend celebrations at Red Fort in Delhi

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in Dussehra celebrations at Red Fort Ground in New Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu are also expected to take part in the celebrations. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will also take part in Dussehra celebrations with the jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border police at Joshimath in Uttarakhand.

    India Jumps to 14th Rank as Best Country for Expats HSBC Survey

    According to the HSBC survey, India placed at global rankings by 12 places to take the 14th spot in terms of best country for expats to live and work. The list is part of HSBC's latest 'expat explorer survey' that covered 27,587 expats from 159 countries and territories in March and April 2017. About 71 percent expats in India reported high levels of confidence in the local economy, while 58 percent exuded optimism on political stability.

    President Ram Nath Kovind appointed five new Governors for the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Meghalaya. Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. Satya Pal Malik as the Governor of Bihar. Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Prof Jagdish Mukhi as the Governor of Assam. Ganga Prasad as the Governor of Meghalaya. Devendra Kumar Joshi as the Governor of Andaman & Nicobar islands.

    Aeris Communications partners BSNL for IOT solutions

    Aeris Communications entered into a partnership with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to provide packaged Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services to small, medium businesses and public sector undertakings (PSUs) in India. The company will leverage BSNL's wide network coverage, to provide a comprehensive, end-to-end IoT services platform for enterprises, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was incorporated on 15th September 2000. Anupam Shrivastava is present Chairman & Managing Director of BSNL.

    Union Government notifies Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017

    The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) notified new Wetland (Conservation and Management) Rules 2017 to prohibit range of activities in wetlands. Wetland is transitional land between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems where the water table is usually at or near the surface or it may be land covered by shallow water. There are 115 wetlands officially identified by Central Government and of those 26 are identified as wetlands of international importance under Ramsar Convention (an international intergovernmental treaty for the conservation of wetlands to which India is a party).

    Union Government finalising Electoral Bonds Scheme

    The Union Government is finalizing electoral bonds scheme in order to bring greater transparency in the funding of political parties. The scheme was announced in 2017-18. According to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), most political parties use lax regime on donations to accept cash donations from anonymous sources. Nearly 70% of Rs.11,300 crore in party funding over an 11-year period came from unknown sources.

    VNL Signs Pact with BSNL for Disaster Management

    Telecom equipment and solutions provider VNL signed a MoU with BSNL to provide solutions for disaster management. The 'Relief 123' service will restore connectivity at disaster sites, help locate the affected and integrate information across platforms to enable informed decision-making for quick relief. It is service which is an integrated disaster response solution for first responders and public safety agencies.

  • Directorate General of Quality Assurance celebrates its Diamond Jubilee

    The Diamond Jubilee of Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) observed on 28 September 2017 as it completed 60 years of its existence. To commemorate the occasion, Minister of State (MoS) for Defence, Dr Subhash Bhamare released the ‘First Day Cover’ of DGQA. He also launched portal for e-registration of vendors. The main aim is to provide Quality Assurance (QA) cover for an entire range of Arms, Ammunitions, Equipment, and Stores supplied to Armed Forces.

    CARA launches monthly Jan Sampark Program to facilitate adoption

    The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) launched monthly Jan Sampark program to enable public to interact with its officials to obtain information related to child adoption. The first of its kind programme under it was held recently in New Delhi. Nearly 150 Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs), adoptive parents and representatives of agencies participated in the session.

    Indian Railways to soon introduce innovative techniques to eliminate rail accidents

    Railway Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that innovative techniques are soon being introduced to eliminate rail accidents. It includes revamping the existing signaling system by use of TPWS - Train Protection and Warning System and MTRC, Mobile Train Radio Communication. The electrification of rail tracks will be completed by next 4-5 years. This will lead to savings in energy costs over 10,000 crores while reducing pollution and dependence on imported diesel.

    Asian Development Bank to Increase Annual Lending to India to $4 billion

    The Asian Development Bank will increase its annual lending to India to a maximum of $4 billion between 2018 and 2022 to help fasten inclusive economic transformation towards upper middle-income status. The proposal was endorsed at new ADB Country Partnership Strategy for 2018- 2022. The new lending programme, which includes private sector operations, is much higher than the average $2.65 billion a year in loans extended during 2012 and 2016.  

    IBBI Registered National E-Governance Services Limited as Information Utility

    The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) registered National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL) as an Information Utility (IU) under the IBBI (Information Utilities) Regulations, 2017.  It becomes the first IU registered by the IBBI and the registration is valid for five years from the date of registration. It stores financial information that helps to establish defaults as well as verify claims expeditiously and facilitates completion of transactions under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code in a time-bound manner.

    Russia and US Partner to Build 1st Ever Space Station Near Moon

    Russian and the United States space agencies, Roscosmos and NASA, have agreed to jointly build a "deep space gateway", the first-ever astronaut-tended space station around the Moon.  It would help prepare for manned missions to deep space destinations including Mars. NASA and Roscosmos are two of the major partners in the $100-billion Earth-orbiting International Space Station (ISS).

    Union Cabinet approves installation of telecom towers in cantonments and military areas

    The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for revision of policy of Ministry of Defence for providing Defence land to Communication Operators for construction of Shared Communication Towers and allied Infrastructure. The Decision in this regard was taken based on experience in implementing policy and guidelines issued by Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for the issue of clearance for installation of Mobile Towers. The revised policy will cover allotment of Defence land on lease and grant of permission in Defence areas and Cantonments to Access Service Licensees and Companies registered with DoT as IP-I (Infrastructure Providers – Category-I for setting up shared communication towers and allied infrastructure.

    Two US Lawmakers Introduce Legislation in House of Rep. to Support India’s Permanent Membership to UNSC

    In the United States, two influential Democratic lawmakers have introduced a legislation in the House of Representative to support India’s permanent membership to the UN Security Council. It is Introduced by Congressman Ami Bera and Congressman Frank Pallone, the resolution would put the House officially on record in support of India’s bid. Ami Bera, Vice Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and longest serving Indian-American in Congress stated that securing a permanent spot for India on the UN Security Council would strengthen democracy around the world.

    Cabinet approves pacts signed by Exim Bank under BRICS mechanism

    The Cabinet approved the signing of Interbank Local Currency Credit Line Agreement and Cooperation Memorandum relating to Credit Ratings by Exim Bank with member banks under BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism. The Cabinet has authorized Board of Directors of Exim Bank to negotiate and conclude any individual contracts and commitments within their framework as both agreements are non-binding in nature. They will promote multilateral interaction within the area of mutual interest which will deepen political and economic relations with BRICS nations.  

    Union Cabinet approves umbrella scheme of Modernisation of Police Forces

    The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi given its approval for implementation of umbrella scheme of "Modernisation of Police Forces (MPF)" for years 2017-18 to 2019-20. The financial outlay for the scheme over the three year’s period is Rs.25,060 crore, out of which the Central Government share will be Rs.18,636 crore and the States’ share will be Rs.6,424 crore. The central budget outlay of Rs.10,132 crore earmarked for internal security related expenditure for Jammu & Kashmir, the North Eastern States and left-wing extremism affected States. It provides for setting up of State-of-Art forensic science laboratory in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh and up gradation of  Sardar Patel Global Centre for Security, Counter-Terrorism and Anti-Insurgency in Jaipur and Gujarat Forensic Science University in Gandhi Nagar.

  • Maharashtra Government Signs MoU with South Korea

    The Maharashtra government signed a MoU with South Korea for increased co-operation in infrastructure projects like development of smart cities, roads, airports, and metros on the first day of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ visit to that country. It helps with implementation strategy, legal systems, policies, technologies and information in infrastructure development. Fadnavis embarked on a three-day tour to South Korea and Singapore.

    IDBI Bank Launches ‘Project Nishchay’ for Turnaround

    IDBI Bank launched ‘Project Nishchay’ in partnership with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to accelerate its turnaround program and improve financial performance. The project will be led by senior management at IDBI Bank along with BCG. BCG will assist the bank to identify areas for cost containment and revenue maximization leading to sustainable growth and profitability of the Bank.

    The Minister of Communication Shri Manoj Sinha launched DoT’s first ever Mobile, Internet, and Technology event in India - India Mobile Congress 2017 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. It is Led by Department of Telecom as the nodal ministry, the India Mobile Congress is being organized by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). The largest and first ever event also has the support of the other ministries like the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Skill Development and Entrepreneurship amongst others.

    Angola Swears in its First New President After 38 Years

    Angola swore in Joao Lourenco as the country's President making him the first new President of the country in 38 years. He served as Angola's Defence Minister earlier, vowed to attract more foreign investment. The People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) governed since Angola's hard-fought independence from Portugal in 1975 with Dos Santos taking power in 1979.

It has the unique feature of audio notes (text-to-voice conversion software) which converts written information into the audio file as well as the adjustable font.

    Patanjali’s Acharya Balkrishna among Top 10 Richest Indians

    Acharya Balkrishna, the associate of Baba Ramdev-run FMCG company Patanjali and Radhakishan Damani of D-Mart are among the top 10 rich people in the country. He ranked eighth in the Hurun India rich list 2017. His position rose to 8th position from 25th last year after seeing his wealth grow by 173% Patanjali, with a turnover of INR 10,561 crore in 2016-2017 has been a close competition to major international brands. Business Tycoon, Mukesh Ambani, with a net worth of INR 257,900 crore is ranked first in the list for the sixth consecutive year.

    Kandla Port renamed as Deendayal Port

    The Kandla Port one of the top 12 major ports in the country renamed as Deendayal Port from Monday in the name of Hindutva icon Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier this year while laying the foundation stone for Rs933 crore projects at Kandla Port. The port’s journey began in 1931 with the construction of a jetty by Maharao Khengarji.  It became the number one port in India and created history by handling 100 million tonnes cargo in a year.

    Two Indian women featured on Fortune's list of Most Powerful Women in business outside the US. Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank Chanda Kochhar was ranked fifth and Managing Director and CEO of Axis Bank Shikha Sharma was ranked at 21. The 50 global businesswomen represent 17 countries and many industries. The Top Three Most Powerful Women in business in the List are Ana Botin (Spain), Emma Walmsley (UK), Isabelle Kocher (France).

    PENCIL Portal launched for effective implementation of National Child Labour Project

    The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment launched Platform for Effective Enforcement for No Child Labour (PENCIL) Portal at National Conference. The portal is an electronic platform that aims at involving Centre, State, District, Governments, civil society and the general public in achieving the target of child labor free society. They launched Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs) for enforcement of legal framework against child labor.

  • BDL Signs Contract for Supply of MRSAM to Indian Army

    Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a contract with Research Centre Imarat (RCI) for the supply of Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) to Indian Army. The contract was signed to facilitate production, deliveries and product support of MRSAM system for the Indian Army. Directors and senior officials from BDL and senior scientists from DRDO were present on the occasion. It is headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana.

    ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission completes 3 years in orbit

    Indian Space research Organistaion (ISRO) globally acclaimed Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) also known as Mangalyaan completed three years in Martian orbit. On the occasion of completion of three years, ISRO released MOM second-year science data from September 24, 2014, to September 23, 2016. The main plan designed built and launched by ISRO in a record period of fewer than two years in Rs.450 crore ($73 million US) budget, making it cheapest inter-planetary.

    INS TARASA commissioned into Indian Navy

    INS Tarasa (T94), the fourth and last ship in series of Water Jet Fast Attack Craft (WJFAC) was commissioned into Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard. It is an improved variant of Car Nicobar-class high-speed offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) built by Kolkata (West Bengal) based Garden Reach Shipbuilder. It is named after the picturesque island in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago in Bay of Bengal.

    Lakshmanan wins 5,000m gold at National Open Athletics

    Asian champion Govindan Lakshmanan of Services cruised to victory in the men's 5000-metre race on the opening day of the 57th National Open Athletics Championships at the Nehru Stadium. He has recently won gold in the 3,000m event at the Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

    New Underground Water Treatment Plant in Agartala

    In Tripura, a new underground water treatment plant commissioned at Sadhutilla in the southern part of Agartala. The plant has started functioning with a supply of quality treated water initially to 565 households through the pipeline. The treatment capacity of 4 point 8 million litre per day. It has two Over Head Storage Reservoirs with capacities of 1,130 Kilo Liter and 450 Kilo Liter.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi forms Economic Advisory Council

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi reconstituted the Economic Advisory Council (EAC) to guide him on economic issues and appointed economist Bibek Debroy as its chairman. Debroy is a member of government think tank Niti Aayog.  The four other part-time EAC members are Surjit Bhalla, Rathin Roy, Ashima Goyal and Ratan Watal.

    Karnataka Government launches Vision-2025 project

    Karnataka Government to launch The Nava Karnataka 2025 or Vision 2025 was launched on Monday, for charting out a development roadmap for the next seven years. The main aim of the government on several developmental goals, whether it was eliminating hunger, creating employment or decreasing malnutrition among children. The Vision 2025 exercise will cover 13 sectors including agriculture and allied sectors, infrastructure, industrial development, education, employment, health and nutrition, rural development, social justice,  urban development.

    State Bank of India Eases Minimum Balance Rules On Savings Accounts

    State Bank of India lowered the Minimum Average Monthly Balance (MAB) requirement in a savings account to Rs 3,000 from Rs 5,000 and also revised downwards penalties for not maintaining such a balance. From July 1, tax on banking has been revised to 18 percent under Goods and Services Tax (GST), the new indirect tax regime. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed banks to levy charges on non-maintenance of minimum balance in normal savings accounts.

    7th ASEM Economic Minister’s Meeting Held in South Korea

    The 7th ASEM (Asia–Europe Meeting) Economic Ministers’ Meeting was held in Seoul, South Korea. The theme for the 2017 year meeting is‘ Innovative Partnership for Inclusive Prosperity’. The meeting was conducted under the Chairmanship of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of the Republic of Korea.  The 51 member countries signed a Joint Statement on Supporting the Multilateral Trade System.​​​​​​​

    Pakistan,Russia begin joint military drills DRUZBA 2017

    The joint exercise DRUZBA 2017 between special forces of Pakistan and Russia Armies started in Minralney Vody, Russia. Pakistan and Russia are holding two-week long joint military drill focusing on counter-terrorism operations to enhance military ties between the two countries. The joint exercise will enhance and further strengthen military ties between the two countries and share Pakistan Army’s experience in the war against terrorism. Last year, Russia held its first-ever military exercises with Pakistan and also started selling weapons to Islamabad.

    TRIFED inks MoU with Amazon to sale tribal products online

    Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with e-commerce giant Amazon for selling tribal products. The aim of the initiative is to promote tribal handicrafts like handloom products, cane and bamboo products, tribal jewelry, Dhokra craft, tribal weaves. It is a national-level apex organization functioning under the administrative control of Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
