    Saudi Arabia to Allow Women into Sports Stadiums from 2018

    Turki Al-Asheikh, Chairman of the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia announced that Saudi women will now be able to attend sports events in stadiums starting from 2018. The move is aimed at empowering and engaging women in the society as an integral part of the development process. All these changes support Saudi Arabia's “Vision 2030” plan for economic and social reforms.

    India Sends 1st Wheat Shipment to Afghanistan via Chabahar port

    Iran's key strategic port of Chabahar became operational with the maiden shipment of wheat from India to Afghanistan. It was flagged off from Kandla port in Gujarat. This is a major push for India's Afghan outreach bypassing Pakistan for the first time under the 2016 Indo-Afghan-Iran trilateral pact. Chabahar port is strategically located in Sistan-Balochistan province on energy-rich Iran’s southern coast in Gulf of Oman near its border with Pakistan and can be easily accessed from India’s western coast.

    Suresh Raina appointed as brand ambassador of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation

    Suresh Raina appointed as the brand ambassador of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) at a programme at Ghaziabad. It is the only city among 16 municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh which has been declared open defecation free. This programme will help the municipal corporation in spreading awareness about sanitation. V.K. Jindal, Joint Secretary and Director of Swachh Bharat Mission, and Ghaziabad Municipal Commissioner C.P. Singh were present during the occasion.

    India and World Bank Signed $200 Million Loan Agreement for Assam

    The Government of India and the World Bank signed a $200 million Loan Agreement for the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project. The Project will support Assam to facilitate agri-business investments, increase agricultural productivity and market access. The Project will be implemented in over 16 Districts of Assam. Over 500,000 farming households will directly benefit from the Project.

    Mithali Raj and Virat Kohli Tops ICC Ranking

    India captain Mithali Raj moved up one place to occupy the number one spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batswomen. Ellyse Perry of Australia and Amy Satterthwaite of New Zealand also jumped one place each to be at second and third spots. Mithali has 753 points. Also, Indian captain, Virat Kohli returned to the top of the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen after logging career-high rating points going past the iconic Sachin Tendulkar in the process.  The 28-year-old Delhi batsman has reached 889 points, which is the best ever by an India batsman.

    Johor Cup Hockey Indian Junior Team Win Bronze Medal

    Indian Junior Men’s Hockey team beat hosts Malaysia 4-0 in the Bronze medal match of the 7th Sultan of Johor Cup 2017 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium, in Malaysia Goals from Vishal Antil (15’, 25’), Vivek Prasad (11’) and Shilanand Lakra (21’) were enough for India to finish their tournament with the Bronze medal.

    Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar assumes charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff

    Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar took charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS) from Vice Admiral Karambir Singh at a formal ceremony held at South Block, New Delhi. He is an alumni of the National Defence Academy. He is also an alumni of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

    Anupam Kher receives Parmod Mahajan Smriti Award

    Anupam Kher received Parmod Mahajan Smriti Award in Pune. He is the current Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India. Saira Banu, who moved Supreme Court seeking a ban on instantaneous ‘Triple Talaq’ among Muslims is the second recipient of Pramod Mahjan Smriti Award. The awards were presented by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. The award was instituted by Pune-based organization ‘Muktachhand’ in memory of Late Pramod Mahajan who was the leader from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former Union Cabinet Minister.

  • Haryana Government to engage 15000 apprentices in various departments

    To strengthen the manpower of various departments of Haryana government, 15,000 apprentices will be engaged from December. A sum of Rs 31.64 crore has been allocated by the Finance Department for this purpose. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the Skill Development and Industrial Department would be the nodal department for monitoring engagement of apprentices. According to the decision taken by the government, all departments are required to immediately engage apprentices to the extent of 10 percent of their total manpower, including contractual or outsourced employees, working at directorates and in field offices.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Bidar - Kalaburagi New Railway Line to the Nation by unveiling a plaque at Bidar Railway Station, in Karnataka. He also flagged off the DEMU Service between Bidar and Kalaburagi.

    Union Government Makes Use of Public Finance Management System Mandatory for Central Schemes

    The Centre has made the use of Public Finance Management System (PFMS) mandatory for all central schemes. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stated that making use of the PFMS mandatorily will ensure benefits of government schemes to reach the last mile.  The move would help in tracking and monitoring the flow of funds to the implementing agencies.  A total of 613 schemes of the central government will be covered under PFMS. The ambit of PFMS coverage includes central sector and centrally sponsored schemes as well as other expenditures including the Finance Commission grants.

    Rwanda gets first cricket stadium

    Rwanda’s first cricket stadium was inaugurated on 29thoct 2017 byPresident Paul Kagame as a permanent home for developing the sport in the country. The Rwandan Cricket Stadium Foundation was set up by Alby Shale, the son of a late British politician and cricket lover who visited Rwanda to do aid work. Rwanda’s national cricket association estimates that only around 4,000 people currently play cricket.

    Satya Gopal appointed as chief secretary of Arunchal Pradesh

    Delhi Principal Home Secretary Satya Gopal transferred to Arunachal Pradesh as the chief secretary. Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal relieved Satya Gopal from the Delhi Principal Home Secretary post. Satya Gopal is a 1988 batch IAS officer. The transfer of Satya Gopal has been made one-and-a-half months after he was appointed as the principal home secretary in the Delhi government.

    Indian Army finalises mega Rs 40,000 crore procurement plan to replace ageing weapons

    Indian Army finalized one of its biggest procurement plans for infantry modernization at a cost of nearly Rs 40,000 crore to replace its aging and obsolete weapons. Under this plan, around 7 lakh rifles, 44,000 light machine guns (LMGs) and nearly 44,600 carbines will be procured. Indian Army has been insisting to fast-track the procurement in backdrop of evolving security threats along India’s borders with Pakistan and China. Besides, Union Government has directed Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to expedite its work on various small arms, particularly on Light Machine Guns.

    SIDBI Revamps Portal for Easy Credit Access

    Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) revamped its portal www.udyamimitra.in with enhanced features to provide easy access to credit and hand-holding services for micro small medium enterprises (MSME). The portal is mobile-enabled and provides a self-assessment module (auto assisting in categorization). It sends various information on registered MSMEs from time to time. It also allows loan applications to be perused and picked up by multiple lenders.

    India to Host UN Wildlife Summit in 2020

    India will host the next United Nations (UN) global wildlife conference in 2020. India will host the next CMS Conference of the Parties CMSCOP13. It was officially announced at the closing CMSCOP12 plenary, in Manila, Philippines. The six-day 12th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS COP12) is the only international treaty devoted exclusively to migratory animal species. The theme of the Conference was ‘Their Future is Our Future - Sustainable Development for Wildlife and People’.

    Kidambi Srikanth Wins French Open to Clinch 4th Super Series Title of 2017

    India's Kidambi Srikanth created history he became the first Indian player to win four Superseries titles in a year after he won the men's singles title at the French Open. He defeated Japan's Kenta Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13 in the final to achieve this feat. This win was another addition to the Indian's list of firsts as he also became the only Indian to win the French Open since it became a Superseries event in 2007.

    Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest Batsman to Score 9000 ODI Runs

    Virat Kohli became the sixth Indian to complete 9000 ODI runs during the third game against New Zealand. He went on to score his 32nd ODI century off 96 balls. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had reached the milestone in 2016 while other Indians who have done so are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin. Overall, Kohli, who played his 202nd match and 194th innings has become the 19th batsman to breach the 9000-run mark, making him the fastest to get there.

    Uttar Pradesh declares Vrindavan, Barsana as sacred sites

    Uttar Pradesh State Government issued an order notifying Vrindavan and Barsana towns in Mathura district as “pavitra teerth sthals” (sacred pilgrimage sites). Due to this notification, no meat and liquor shops will be allowed in these towns anymore. Departments of urban development, excise, food and drug administration, general administration and home have been directed by the State Government to ensure that necessary steps are taken in this regard within three months. It is to be noted that, Vrindavan and Barsana are the first two places to be notified as teerth sthal in Uttar Pradesh Government records.

    Union Cabinet approves Rs 7,000 crore for construction of six IIT campuses

    Union Cabinet approved over Rs 7,000 crore for construction of permanent campuses of six new Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). Permanent campuses for six new IITs will be constructed at Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Palakkad (Kerala), Dharwad (Karnataka), Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) and Goa. Academic sessions of  IITs at Tirupati and Palakkad started in 2015-16 and at Dharwad, Bhilai, Jammu, and Goa it started in 2016-17. These institutions are currently functioning from temporary campuses with a total strength of 1530 students. From the academic year 2020-2021, each of the six permanent campuses will have a facility for housing 1,200 students, thereby raising the total strength of students to 7200.

    Ministry of External Affairs Launches AsktheSpokesperson for better understanding of foreign policy

    The Ministry of External Affairs launched the “#AsktheSpokesperson” initiative on Twitter, to create better awareness and understanding of foreign policy issues to general public. #AsktheSpokesperson initiative will be a regular feature to engage and educate the public about foreign policy matters in simplified terms. It will be held every 2months. The Ministry invites questions from the public on India’s foreign policy and selected questions would be responded by the Official Spokesperson. It also launched its LinkedIn profile.

    India overtake the US to become the world’s second-largest smartphone market, trailing only China, according to a new report by analyst firm Canalys. In the second quarter of 2017, India’s smartphone market recovered quickly with shipments growing 23% year-on-year in the third quarter to reach just over 40 million units. Low smartphone penetration and the explosion of LTE (long-term evolution, or 4G) are the main drivers behind this.

    Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) became the first Indian company to cross Rs 6 trillion market capitalization after its shares surged over 75% so far this year and hit a fresh lifetime high. Currently, its market cap is at Rs 6.02 trillion. The recent rally in the stock was due to tariff hike by its telecom arm Reliance Jio which, analysts expect, will improve the company’s profitability. Jio increased its tariff by 15% for its popular 84-day plan at Rs 459, under which subscribers get 1GB 4G data at high speed per day.

    Jacinda Ardern Officially Sworn in as Prime Minister of New Zealand

    Jacinda Ardern was officially sworn in as the Prime Minister of New Zealand. At the age of 37, Ardern is the youngest New Zealand PM in 150 years.  She is also the country's third woman leader. This was the first time New Zealand adopted proportional voting since 1996.

    African country Burundi has withdrawn from International Criminal Court (ICC) with effect has thus become the first nation. International Criminal Court is an international tribunal (located in Hague, Netherlands) having authority to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. In recent years, governments of three African countries, South Africa, Gambia and Burundi expressed their intent to leave ICC citing the reason that it focuses too much on African nations.

    Jeff Bezos Replaces Gates as World's Richest Person with $90.6-bn Fortune

    According to Forbes magazine, Jeff Bezos surpassed Bill Gates as the richest person in the world. The fortune of Amazon's founder reached some $90.6 billion, compared with the $90.1 billion that the online edition of the magazine attributes to Gates. This is not the first time that Bezos has outpaced Gates it previously happened in the month of July 2017.

    India and US to implement HOSTAC to strengthen maritime security

    India and the United States have agreed to implement the programme for Helicopter Operations from Ships other Than Aircraft Carriers (HOSTAC). This decision was taken during a meeting between Indian Defense Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharama and US Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis. The meeting between Ms. Sitharaman and Mr. Mattis was held on October 25, 2017, in the Philippines on sidelines of ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting – Plus.

    Karnataka state cabinet approved a policy which seeks to provide legal protection to the transgender community and thereby safeguard them from social and sexual exploitation. The objective of this policy is to remove the stigma attached to the transgender community and integrate them into the mainstream of the society. Under the policy, an awareness drive will be conducted to sensitize general public about the rights of transgenders.

    India and ADB Signed $65.5 Million Loan to Support Coastal Protection

    The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $65.5 million loan agreement in New Delhi to continue interventions to check coastal erosion on the Western Coast in Karnataka. The loan is the Second Tranche of a $250 million financing facility under the Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Program. The financing will be used to address the immediate coastal protection needs and for strengthening institutional capacity of Karnataka’s Public Works, Ports and Inland Water Transport Department.

    EDII Bags AICTE Award for Supporting Start-Ups

    Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) received an award from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for supporting start-ups. The premier Institute received the award for its contribution towards promoting and mentoring technology start-ups. The award was given during the International Science Festival’s Start-up Summit 2017 at Chennai.

An MoU was inked to promote tourism from the catchment area of Hyderabad to Malaysia and also explore new locations for connectivity. Over 100,000 passengers travel between Hyderabad and Malaysia every year and the traffic has grown by 28% CAGR in the last five years.

    Qatar Introduces Minimum Wage for First Time

    The tiny Gulf state host of the 2022 football World Cup Qatar committed that it will introduce a minimum wage for workers in the country. The announcement was made by labour and social affairs minister Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi. The announcement came a day before a meeting of the UN’s International Labour Organisation (ILO).

    Indian Navy approves new mission-based deployment plan

    During the ongoing Naval Commanders’ Conference, Indian Navy approved a “new mission-based deployment” plan under which mission-ready ships and aircrafts will be deployed along critical sea lanes of communications. A new transition cycle for ships from maintenance periods to operational deployments has also been approved by Chief Admiral Suni Lanba. Several operational issues and efforts to make Indian Navy self-reliant and modernize its warfare capability were also discussed at the conference.

In the top 10 cities category, Seville of Spain was ranked as number one. In the top 10 regions category, Belfast & the Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland was ranked number one. In the top 10 best value, Tallinn of Estonia was given the number one rank.

As per the Credit Suisse Research Institute's (CSRI) latest "CS Family 1000" report, with an average market capitalisation of USD 6.5 billion, India ranks 5th in Asia Pacific excluding Japan, and 22nd globally, in terms of average m-cap.
