  • Gujarat Chief Minister Rupani pitches for One Nation One election

    Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani reiterated that simultaneous election drive would strengthen the sustainable development programmes of center and state government. In his recent media interaction, citing administrative issues associated with the model code of conduct Rapani suggested that on the lines of simultaneous polls EC should review the existing system of civic polls for the easy roll out of important administrative decision pertaining to the welfare of the state. According to media reports Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah will be interacting with Chief Ministers of BJP ruled state to brainstorm on the feasibility of One Nation One election.

    Roger Federer Becomes Most Decorated Laureus Award Winner

    Tennis legend Roger Federer became the most decorated winner in the history of Laureus World Sports Awards after he won twin honors at the 18th edition of the awards ceremony in Monaco. It was his sixth award. The awards include the Sportsman and Comeback titles. American tennis great Serena Williams won the Sportswoman of the Year Award following her Australian Open success, her 23rd Grand Slam title. Serena is now the most decorated female Laureus Award winner with five Laureus statuettes.

    Union Government to launch GOBAR-Dhan Yojana

    The Union Government is going to roll out Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme. It was first announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during his 2018-19 budget speech. The scheme focuses on managing and converting cattle dung and solid waste in farms to the use composition. It will also help in keeping the village clean while increasing income of farmers and cattle herders.

    Central Government sanctions more than Rs. 700 crore under PMGSY for Arunachal Pradesh

    Union Rural Development Ministry sanctioned more than Rs. 700 crore for 43 roads and 15 bridges under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for Arunachal Pradesh.  The total of 685 KM of roads and 577 meters of bridges will be constructed out of the sanctioned amount.  Chief Minister Pema Khandu has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the grant and said his concern for Arunachal Pradesh in terms of connectivity is evident from the positive gesture.  The state is rising under the able and dynamic leadership of Mr. Modi and with such continuous support, Arunachal Pradesh shall transform itself at par with other developed states.

    India Clinched 11 Medals At Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament

    India comes up with best ever performance at the 69th Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Bulgaria. At Sofia, the country ended with a whopping 11 medals – five from men and six from women boxers. Overall, the contingent clinched two gold, three silver, and six bronze medals. Vikas Krishan, who claimed a gold medal in 75 kg category, was also adjudged the best boxer of the event, a first for an Indian. Another Gold medal was clinched by Amit Panchal.

    National Science Day is celebrated as 28th February

    India Ranks 47th On Inclusive Internet Index: Facebook

    India ranked 47th out of 86 countries on the Inclusive Internet Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which was commissioned by Facebook. Sweden took the first place, followed by Singapore and the US. The scores on the index, which covered 91% of the world's population, is based on the scores of Availability, Affordability, Relevance and Readiness categories.

    TV Journalist Rahul Mahajan Named Rajya Sabha TV Editor-In-Chief

    Television journalist Rahul Mahajan appointed as editor-in-chief of the television channel Rajya Sabha TV. Mahajan’s name was recommended by a five-member selection committee headed by Prasar Bharti chairman A. Surya Prakash and was approved by the vice-president of India M.Venkaiah Naidu. The committee also included Swapan Dasgupta, Shashi Shekhar Vempati, P.P.K. Ramacharyulu and Rahul Srivastava.

    Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) introduced UAN-Aadhaar linking facility for the convenience of members using EPFO Link in UMANG Mobile App. The facility on e-KYC Portal has further added a new feature to link UAN with Aadhaar online using biometric credentials.

    Uma Bharti Launches 2nd Project Of Swajal Yojana In Rajasthan

    Union Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti launched the Swajal pilot project at Village Bhikampura in Rajasthan. Besides ensuring the availability of clean drinking water to every household around the year, the project would also generate employment. Swajal is a community-owned drinking water programme for sustained drinking water supply. Under the scheme, 90% of the project cost will be taken care by the Government and the remaining 10% of the project cost will be contributed by the community.

    Blue-Coloured Baal Aadhaar Card Launched By UIDAI

    Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced a ‘Baal Aadhaar’ card for children below the age of five years. No biometric details will be required to get this blue-colored Baal Aadhaar card. A child below 5 years of age gets a blue in colored Aadhaar known as Baal Aadhaar. When the child becomes 5 years old, a mandatory biometric update is required.

    RISE Scheme: IITs set to get 25% of Government loans for higher education institutes

    The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will get the largest chunk of loans on offer under Revitalising Infrastructure and Systems in Education (RISE). This shifts funding mechanism to CFIs in higher education from grant assistance to loans to assure more funds, greater accountability. RISE scheme was announced in Union Budget 2017-18. It aims to lend low-cost funds to government higher educational institutions.

    China elected as vice chair of FATF

    China was elected as vice chair of Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global body mandated to combat terror financing and money laundering. In its plenary meeting in Paris, FATF had placed Pakistan under “grey list” subject to direct monitoring and intense scrutiny by International Cooperation. It is an inter‐governmental policy-making body that aims to establish international standards for combating money laundering and terrorist financing. It was established in 1989 during the G7 Summit in Paris (France) to combat the growing problem of money laundering.

    MC Mary Kom And Seema Poonia Bag Silver Medals In Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament

    Indian stars Seema Poonia and MC Mary Kom have settled for Silver medals after losing in the final of 69th Strandja Memorial Boxing tournament at Sofia in Bulgaria. While Mary Kom lost to Bulgarian Sevda Asenova in the 48-kilogram title bout, Seema went down to Russian Anna Ivanova in the 81 kg final. Overall Indian women ended up with two silver and four bronze medals in one of the oldest boxing tournaments in Europe.

    India and Korea Business Summit In New Delhi

    PM Narendra Modi addressed the 2nd India-Korea Business Summit in New Delhi. The theme of the Summit this year is “India-Korea: Scaling up the Special Strategic Relationship through Trade and Investments”. The Summit aims to create the framework for an open and action-oriented dialogue between top business leaders and Government officials from both countries.     Tamil Nadu and Microsoft Tie-Up To Accelerate Cloud Technology Adoption

    The government of Tamil Nadu announced signing an agreement with IT Major Microsoft to improve the integration of technology in teaching and learning in the state. The partnership aims to reform education sector, build tech capacity and enhance digital literacy across all levels. As a part of the agreement, Microsoft will adopt seven schools identified by the government and train their teachers and students around building 21st-century skills.

  • Andhra Pradesh inks MoU with US based AutoGrid to transform and uplift electricity sector

    Andhra Pradesh inked MoU with US-based AutoGrid to help transform electricity sector of the state. With this Andhra Pradesh will adopt smart grid and Internet of Things (IoT) based solutions of AutoGrid to improve energy utilities' financial health and customer experiences. The state government on Sunday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AutoGrid, a US-based leading provider of flexible management software for the energy sector, at the CII Partnership Summit. The initiative involves demand-side management (DSM) programmes covering key segments, including agricultural pump-sets, residential/commercial ACs, and industrial units. The Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) will use the programmes to evaluate its benefits to the utility as well as to the consumers in the state.

    Aruna Budda Reddy created history by becoming the first Indian to win an individual medal at the Gymnastics World Cup in Melbourne, Australia. She clinched a Bronze medal in the Women’s Vault.     DRDO Successfully Carries Out Test Flight Of Rustom-2 Drone

    Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flown it's Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle RUSTOM 2 in Karnataka. The flight assumes significance as this is the first flight in user configuration with higher power engine. India at present depends on America and Israel for such predator drones. DRDO is developing within India a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle RUSTOM 2. It has the capability to fly for 24 hours at a stretch at over 200 km/hr speed, and can, not only conduct sustained surveillance but will be able to destroy enemy targets.

    Kolkata Metro Station to get a tech savvy remodeling with advanced mechanization and safety

    Kolkata metro station are all set to get the much needed modern makeover. The East-West metro will debut its new makeover with new rakes and will be outfitted with the latest state of art technology this year. There will be six coaches, while some of the latest features include push-button start and stop, advanced automation. Along with this, it has track-synced safe signaling system and a remote operation hub to operate an ATC tower of an airport. The rakes are being manufactured by Bengaluru based BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited). The fundamental operative difference between the current rakes and the new rakes is that the old rakes have a lever, which brings the engine to life and makes the rake move. The lever is put to neutral, once the train reaches optimum speed, and the train approaches a station, the lever is pulled again, making it halt.

    Sri Lanka soon to release all Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture

    Sri Lankan government decided to release remaining 20 Indian fishermen in their custody for charges of poaching in Sri Lankan waters. This will be the first time in recent years that no Indian fishermen are left in Sri Lankan custody. Fishermen from India and Sri Lanka are frequently detained for illegally fishing in each other’s territorial waters since the Arabian Sea does not have a clearly defined marine border and the wooden boats lack the technology to avoid being drifting away.

    Amritsar to get Rs 100 crore for infrastructural development

    Amritsar, the city of Golden Temple will soon get Rs 100 crores for the execution of various development works. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced a grant of Rs.100 crore for the execution of various development works in Amritsar while making it clear that paucity of funds would not be allowed to scuttle the execution of these projects. Addressing the newly elected Municipal Councillors of Amritsar, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said the overall development of all the municipal cities would be undertaken in a holistic manner, as per their needs, in consultation with the concerned Mayors and Municipal Commissioners. The Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu assured the Chief Minister that Amritsar’s development works would be undertaken on priority. While Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu assured the Chief Minister that no stone would be left unturned to ensure all-round development of the holy city even though the government had inherited a whopping debt burden from the previous government.

  • Forty Fourth Khajuraho Dance Festival Held In Madhya Pradesh

    The 44th edition of Khajuraho Dance Festival 2018 was held at Khajuraho temple, a UNESCO world heritage site in Madhya Pradesh.     Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Starts Operations

    Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Limited (ABIPBL) started operations, making it the fifth payments bank to roll out operations. The Reserve Bank has issued a license to the bank under Section 22 (1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 to carry on the business of payments bank in India. The roll-out comes at a time when the regulator has issued fresh know your customer norms for payments banks that are likely to increase operational costs for these banks.

    Cricket Canada Unveils ICC-Approved T20 League

    Canada’s own first franchise-based Twenty20 league “Global T20 Canada”, was announced in New Delhi. The Global T20 Canada League will begin functioning from July 2018 at three venues in Toronto. It is conceptualized, designed, developed and managed by Mercuri Group with Cricket Canada. Global T20 Canada League has received official sanction of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Cricket Canada become the first Associate member of the ICC to start a Twenty20 franchise league in the North America market.

    India's 1st 5G Trial Successful, 3 GB/Sec Speed Achieved

    Chinese technology giant Huawei and telecom services provider Bharti Airtel announced to have successfully conducted 5G network trial under a test set-up in India. The trial was conducted at Airtel’s Network Experience Centre in Manesar (Gurugram). During the test trial, the speed of more than 3Gbps was achieved. This is the highest measured throughput for a mobile network in 3.5 GHz band with 100MHz bandwidth and end-to-end network latency of approximately 1 msec.

    West Bengal government directs to clear the due bonus of Tea estate workers

    Darjeeling tea but little bit we know about the grief of workers of Tea Garden in North Bengal. Deaths from malnutrition, suicide owing to poverty are regular phenomena in those tea estates. In a change, the Bengal government directed all tea estates in the Darjeeling hills to pay by March 10 the bonus dues of workers for last year.  But unfortunately, 50% of the payment remains unclear. The due bonuses if are not cleared within the given date, the tea estate authorities will face strict legal action. The Gorkhaland agitation in the area caused much loss to tea gardens which already face a cash crunch. Then it was anticipated that tea gardens would not be very generous about payments. Last year, at least 70% of the crop was lost due to the strike.

    Arun Jaitley slams regulators for failure to detect PNB fraud

    Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today criticised regulators for failing to detect the 11,400-crore rupees fraud at Punjab National Bank for seven long years. Speaking at the Speaking at the ET Global Business Summit in New Delhi the employees conniving with fraudsters is worrisome. The regulators should have a third eye open to detect and check such frauds. The industry needs to get into the habit of doing ethical business as such frauds are scars and push reforms and ease of doing business to the background. They slammed bank management for failing to do their job saying inadequate supervision and top management being unaware of what was going on in the bank was worrisome. Finance Minister said bank frauds push ease of doing business to the background while scars on economy take the front seat.

    Mary Kom steps into finals Strandja Memorial Tournament

    In Boxing, MC Mary Kom stormed into the Finals of the Strandja Memorial Tournament at Sofia in Bulgaria while Vikas Krishan and two other male boxers entered the semifinals. In the Women's 48 kg category, five-time world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom, targetting her third successive international gold medal, defeated China's Ye Jiali to make the summit clash. However, former world and Asian champion L Sarita Devi bowed out in the 60 kg section with a bronze medal. Meena Kumari Devi in 54 kg also settled for a Bronze. In the Men's draw, former Asian Games gold-medallist Vikas Krishan in 75 kg, Asian Games bronze medallist Satish Kumar in +91 kg and Gaurav Solanki in 52 kg advanced to the semi-finals to assure themselves of medals. Earlier, Amit Panghal in 49 kgs had also made it to the last-4. It was a significant victory for Vikas, who is returning to action after recovering from a hand injury, which forced him out of the national championships as well as the India Open.

  • Election Commission declares elections of 58 seats of Rajya Sabha

    The Election Commission (EC) announced polls to 58 Rajya Sabha seats which will fall vacant in April this year. Polling for the 58 seats will be held on March 23 The term of office of 58 members of the Upper House, elected from 16 states, is due to expire upon their retirement in April-May 2018. The maximum number of seats for elections are from the state of Uttar Pradesh i.e. 10, six each from Bihar and Maharashtra; five each from West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh; four each from Gujarat and Karnataka; three each from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Rajasthan; two from Jharkhand; and one seat each from Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates projects worth 1,000 crore rupees at Daman

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various developmental projects in Daman in Union territory of Daman and Diu.  He launched the helicopter service between Daman and Diu. Mr. Modi also launched Air Odisha flight service connecting Ahmedabad with Diu under UDAN Scheme.     Maldives announces Presidential elections in September this year

    Despite facing these worse situations, Maldives started doing preparations for the upcoming Presidential elections to be held this year.     India and Canada ink pact adding feather to boost sports mutually

    India and Canada have inked a pact in the presence of Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Canadian Minister for Science and Sports Kirsty Duncan. There an academic part in terms of sports education is also something we seek help in. We have had a wonderful meeting with the minister and I am sure there will be a lot of active participation with each other." Meanwhile, Duncan appreciated the meeting with Rathore and said the two had some wonderful discussion.     India To Host 1st International Solar Alliance In March 2018

    India will host the first International Solar Alliance (ISA) summit on 11th March 2018. It will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The summit will be held in Delhi. The ISA aims to launch 121 projects during the summit. During the summit, two new programmes will be inaugurated on- Scaling Solar E-Mobility and Storage, and Rooftop Solar.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch Amma Two-wheeler Scheme in Chennai

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai and launch the Tamil Nadu government's Amma Two-wheeler Scheme. The scheme of providing 50 percent subsidy to working women to buy two-wheelers is a pet project of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and is being launched on her birth anniversary. He will visit Daman, Chennai, Puducherry, and Gujarat in the next two days. He will arrive in Daman today to launch various development projects and hand over certificates to beneficiaries of various schemes. He will also address a public meeting. From there, Mr. Modi will travel to Chennai to inaugurate the Amma Two-wheeler Scheme. Tomorrow, the Prime Minister will visit Puducherry. He will offer floral tributes to Shri Aurobindo at Aurobindo Ashram, and interact with students of Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education. He will also visit Auroville to release a commemorative postage stamp on the golden jubilee celebrations of Auroville.

    RBI Launches Ombudsman Scheme For NBFCs

    The Reserve Bank of India has launched Ombudsman Scheme for non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) for redressal of complaints against them. The scheme will provide a cost-free and expeditious complaint redressal mechanism relating to deficiency in the services by NBFCs covered under the scheme. The scheme will cover all deposit-taking NBFCs, and based on the experience gained. The offices of the NBFC ombudsmen will function at four metro centers – New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.

    India Successfully Test-Fires Dhanush Missile

    India successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Dhanush ballistic missile with a strike range of 350 km from a naval ship off Odisha coast. This naval variant of the indigenously-developed Prithvi-II missile was test-fired from the ship positioned near Paradip in the Bay of Bengal. It was developed bt the Defence Research and Development Organisation. ‘Dhanush’ missile is is capable of carrying a payload of 500 kg and hitting both land and sea-based targets.

    RBI Sets Up Committee Under YH Malegam To Monitor Bad Loans

    Reserve Bank of India (RBI) constituted an expert committee under the chairmanship of YH Malegam to look into a range of issues relating to classification of bad loans, rising incidents of frauds and effectiveness of audits. Y H Malegam is a former member of the Central Board of Directors of RBI. A K Misra – Executive Director of RBI will be the Member-Secretary of the committee.

    Asian Development Bank And India Sign $84 Million Loan For Water Supply In Bihar

    The Government of India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed an $84 million loan for improvement and expansion of water supply in Bhagalpur and Gaya towns in Bihar. The tranche 2 loan is part of the $200 million multi-tranche financing facility (MFF) for the Bihar Urban Development Investment Program that was approved by ADB in 2012. The loan will have a 25-year term, including a grace period of 5 years, an annual interest rate determined in accordance with ADB’s lending facility based on the London interbank offered rate (LIBOR), and a commitment charge of 0.15% per year.
