Current Affairs: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare observed Vasectomy Fortnight to raise awareness about male sterilization and to promote the participated of men in family planning. Under this awareness campaign, all states and union territories observed Vasectomy Fortnight by providing quality of male sterilization services by providing quality of male sterilization services at public health facilities. The Vasectomy fortnight will be observed up to block level with a focus on family planning service delivery along with information, education, communication, and advocacy. The theme for this is “Zimmedar Purush ki yehi hai Pehchan, Parivar Niyojan mein jo de Yogdaan”.

Brahmos, the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile created history after it was successfully flight-tested first time from the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30MKI against a sea-based target in the Bay of Bengal.  The successful maiden test firing of Brahmos Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) from Su-30MKI will significantly bolster the IAF’s air combat operations capability from stand-off ranges.

India's mission to the Sun will be launched in 2019 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The main aim of the solar mission is to improve our understanding of dynamical processes of the sun and help resolve some outstanding questions in solar physics. The satellite carrying six payloads will be launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on the PSLV- XL launch vehicle. It will be launched into the halo orbit around the Lagrangian point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system.  The second edition of India’s moon mission, Chandrayaan II is scheduled for launch in March 2018. The space agency is aiming to double its satellite launches next year from the current eight to nine annually to 20 every year.

Andhra Bank launched a new scheme for self-help groups (SHGs) to encourage entrepreneurship. The scheme, Pattabhi Sitaramayya — Self Business Group (PS-SBG) has been introduced to commemorate the 138th birth anniversary of its founder Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya, and the Silver Jubilee of the SHG-Bank linkage programme in the country. Under the scheme, SHGs having five years of association with Andhra Bank and having successfully completed three credit rotations with good repayment record and an aptitude for entrepreneurship will be eligible for a loan.

Indian women Boxers started their campaign on a winning note in the opening bouts at the AIBA Women's Youth World Boxing Championships at Guwahati after Astha Pahwa entered quarterfinals while Shashi Chopra made the last-16 stage. She beat Bulgaria’s Melis Yonuzova in the opening round of 69 kg Category to reach the quarterfinal. The Balkan Youth International Championship gold-medallist, Shashi will next face the Chinese Taipei's Lin Li Wei-Yi, who got a first-round bye in the tournament.

India and Russia have joined their hands and signed a pact for giving visa-free entry to the crew members of chartered and scheduled flights in both the nations. The agreement will facilitate visa-free entry, stay and exit of the crew of aircraft of the designated airlines as well as other aircraft companies operating chartered and scheduled flights in the respective territories on a reciprocal basis. This ease has made the relationship between the two nations more concrete. The Visa requirements for crew members are administrative entry restrictions imposed by the countries for the pilot or a member of the crew during a transit. The crew visas are associated with the request for permission to enter a country for a short duration and perform the predefined duties in the given areas, distinct from actual formal permission for an alien to enter and remain in the country.

The Combining effect production of all types of fisheries (capture and culture), the total fish production reached about 11.41 million tonnes in 2016-17. India has become the second largest fish producing country in the world, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh stated while addressing a conference on the occasion of World Fisheries Day in New Delhi.  The scheme 'Blue Revolution' has been launched with the outlay of Rs. 300 crore for the integrated development of the Fisheries sector in the country. As a result, overall fish production has registered an increase of about 18.86% in comparison to the last three years, whereas inland fish production has registered a growth of more than 26%.

The Conference is being organized by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare with the support of WHO Country Office for India and in partnership with Indian Society of International Law. The objective of the Conference is to exchange knowledge and expand understanding on contemporary issues in international trade laws and research and innovation for access to medical products to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 agenda.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully tested supersonic landing parachute that will be deployed in its Mars rover mission set to launch in 2020. The mission will rely on a special parachute to slow spacecraft down as it enters Martian atmosphere at over 5.4 kilometers per second. It was first of several tests in support of NASA's Mars 2020 Mission.
