Telangana State Assembly passed the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Dacoits, Drug Offenders, Goondas, Immoral traffic offenders and Landgrabbers (Amendment) Bill, 2017. The Assembly also passed the Telangana Road Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2017 for development of roads and highways by securing funds from financial institutions and the Shops an Establishments (Amendment) Act, 2017 to give instant licenses to shops and commercial establishments as part of Ease of Doing Business.

Indians can soon get their ‘mini’ version of Niagara Falls in Bengaluru. Bengaluru’s iconic Lalbagh botanical gardens will soon sport a mini Niagara Falls and it is expected to be ready by January.  The artificial waterfall will have water falling down from a height of 25 feet and a width of 120 feet. The Rs 2.7 Crore project is being funded by the state horticulture department. It has been in the works for over a year and is being executed by the public works department.

Adani Power (Jharkhand) inked long-term pact with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to supply electricity from its upcoming 1,600 MW plant at Godda in Jharkhand. It has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the net capacity of 1,496 MW with BPDB for 25 years. The power supply under the PPA will be made from a new  1,600 MW (2x800 MW) ultra-supercritical, coal-based power plant to be set up by Adani Power (Jharkhand).

The Nordic-Baltic embassies will host the first ever youth film festival of the European nations in Delhi showcasing movies from the region. The 6-Day long festival will run in collaboration with the India Habitat Centre. The Nordic-Baltic countries Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden or NB8 are tied together geographically and historically through trade, culture, and many common value systems.

India re-elected as the member of the UNESCO’s executive board, its top decision-making body. The election was held at the 39th session of the General Conference of the UNESCO in Paris, France. The General Conference consists of the representatives of the States Members of the organization. Each country has one vote, irrespective of its size or the extent of its contribution to the budget.

Uber unveiled a partnership with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) to develop flying taxis priced competitively with standard Uber journeys. The first demonstration flights are expected in 2020 and will move into commercial operations by 2023, with plenty of time for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. An Uber Air journey would take three times less time than the same journey by car.

Britain’s first Indian-origin Cabinet Minister Priti Patel resigned as International Development Secretary due to controversies over her unauthorized secret meetings with Israeli politicians. Priti Patel’s resignation is followed by controversies around a dozen undisclosed meetings she had with other Israelis, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for which she had been forced to apologize. She was among the most active supporters of Brexit and had supported the ‘Vote Leave’ campaign in the lead in favor of Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU).

United Arab Emirates (UAE’s) second largest bank, Emirates NBD started operations in India by opening a branch in Mumbai. plan to invest USD 100 million capital into its Indian operations over a period of time. The Mumbai branch is Emirates NBD’s fifth international branch outside of its UAE. Emirates NBD’s Mumbai branch will offer a range of services to corporate, institutional clients and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA) announced that linking of Aadhaar number to insurance policies is now a mandatory requirement under Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017.  This norm of linking Aadhaar number to insurance policies will apply to new customers as well as existing policyholders. Besides, it will apply not only to life insurance policies but also to general insurance policies. Insurance industry experts believe that this norm will be helpful during claims settlement.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Radha Mohan Singh inaugurated the three-day Organic World Congress – 2017 at India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. The Organic World Congress (OWC) is organized once every three years in a different country. The International Federation of Organic Farming Movements (IFOAM) and Organic Farming Association of India (OFAI) are organizing the event. One of the highlights of the event is the exhibition of carefully preserved diverse indigenous seed varieties over generations. 55 seeds group from 15 Indian states showcase 4,000 varieties of seeds in the event.

IDFC Bank entered into a “strategic alliance” with mobile wallet major MobiKwik to launch a co-branded virtual Visa prepaid card for customers of MobiKwik.  Important feature of this alliance is one need not be a customer of IDFC Bank to use the co-branded pre-paid card.

American digital payments company PayPal launched domestic operations in India. At launch, Indian consumers will be able to make transactions at select online merchants. Merchants offering PayPal will be able to process both local and global payments through the platform getting access to PayPal’s more than 200 million customers around the world and in India through a single integration. The company is yet to receive a prepaid payment instrument (PPI) license from the Reserve Bank of India.

US President Donald Trump and other world leaders are to address the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) summit in Vietnam, with trade and growth high on the agenda. He vowed to correct a huge trade imbalance with China and Japan. The Apec Summit brings together 21 economies - the equivalent of about 60% of the world's GDP.
