World’s highest railway bridge which will be 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower is to come up over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir at a cost of around Rs. 1,100 crore in around two years. The new railway bridge will be of an arch-shaped structure in hostile terrain. It will be constructed using over 24,000 tonnes of steel and will rise 359 meter above the river bed. After completion of the bridge it will surpass the record of the Beipan river Shuibai railway bridge (275 m) in China.  

Hockey India has recommended senior player and former captain Sarder singh for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, India's highest sporting honor. SV Sunil, Dharamvir Singh and Deepika have been recommended for the Arjuna Award. Coaches Sandeep Sangwan and Romesh Pathania have been recommended for the Dronacharya Award.

Mallikarjun Kharge is the new chairman of the 21-member (14 from Lok Sabha and 7 from Rajya Sabha) Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament. Kharge replaced Congress leader K V Thomas. The chairman of PAC is appointed by the speaker of Lok Sabha. The main function of PAC is to examine the audit report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) after it is laid in Parliament.

National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant confirmed that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and other commercial banks spend Rs 21,000 crore every year on currency management operations. The major objective of the NITI Aayog is to increase the adoption and use of digital payments in India so that cash usage drops to 5-6 per cent of GDP.

The James Webb Space Telescope passed its final test at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The James Webb is about to launch in 2018,it will become the world's largest telescope to fly to space. The James Webb will probe the cosmos from a spot in space called Lagrange Point 2, located directly behind Earth.

Indian Army, successfully test-fired an advanced version of the Brahmos land-attack cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The land to land configuration of Brahmos block III version was launched from a Mobile autonomous Launcher(MAL). This was fourth successive launch of missile. India also to conduct maiden test of Brahmos supersconic cruise missile's air version soon. The strike range of the missile was enhanced from 290 km to 450 km.

Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to shift its financial year from the present April-March cycle to January-December. The shift is the outcome of NITI Aayog governing council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Such a shift will help in better economic and political management of India.

​​​​​​​Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in collabortion with United Nations Nations Development organisation(UNDO) set up a management facility for the disposal of Hazardous Waste(Polychlorinated Biphenyl) by using Plasma Technology. The project would come up in SAIL's flagship Bhilai Steel Plant. Note - At high temperature Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB's) can burn and generate dangerous by products such as dioxins.
