Mr. Anthony Lianzuala took over as the New Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance with effect from May 1, 2017, in New Delhi. He is the First person from the North-Eastern Region to hold this position.

India’s second tallest flag pole has been Inaugurated in Kolhapur. The pole which is 303 feet high has been constructed in the Police training academy garden as a part of the Kolhapur beautification project. The poll is 90 metres tall and 60 metres wide and weighs 24 tonne. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the pole by unfurling a national flag of 5400sq ft as a part of the ‘Maharashtra Din’ celebrations in the state. The country’s tallest flag pole is located at the Indo-Pak Attari Border and is 360 feet high.

The Minister for Human Resource and Development, Prakash Javadekar launched Students for soldiers- a nationwide Vidya – Veerta Abhiyan to encourage Universities and educational institutions across the country to display portraits of Param Veer Chakra-decorated soldiers. The decorated soldiers portraits were handed over to the Vice Chancellors of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University. The aim of this Abhiyan is to instill a sense of patriotism and nationalism among students.  He unveiled Veergatha books on the 21 Param Veer Chakra awardees for educating school children about the sacrifices made by the Param Veer Chakra awardees.

India has beaten New Zealand 3 - 0, in the Sultan Azalan Shah Hockey Cup being played at Ipoh in Malaysia. This is India’s first win in the tournament. Six nations - India, Malaysia, Australia, Great Britain, Japan and New Zealand are taking part in the 8 day tournament. Last year Australia won the game. India was runner up.

The long Awaited Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA)  will be implemented from May 1. The Act specifies that all existing projects must be registered with the state's regulatory authority by July 2017, and that no new project can be launched without this registration. This enables the buyers to enforce their rights and seek redressal of grievances after such registration.

The Union Minister for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, launched two schemes – ‘One IP- Two Dispensaries’ and ‘Aadhaar-based Online Claim Submission’ on the occasion of International Labour Day. Under One IP-Two Dispensaries scheme, Employee State Insurance Company (ESIC) has given an option to an Insured Person (IP) to choose two dispensaries, one for self and another for family through an employer.

The Department of Telecommunications has launched a web portal called the ‘Tarang Sanchar’ web portal that will allow tracking of radiation emitted from mobile towers within their locality and check for their compliance with the Electromagnetic field (EMF) emission norms defined by the government. The web portal is aimed at myths and misconceptions about mobile towers and their emissions.

Sanjay Pratihar, a scientist at Assam’s Tezpur University, has been selected for the prestigious Indian National Science Academy (INSA) medal for the Young Scientist Award, 2017. His contribution towards multi-metal complexes, theoretical understanding, selective sensing of Hq2+ions and important applications in agriculture made to receive the award with pride. The INSA award consists of a bronze medal and a cash award of Rs. 25,000. The award will be presented during INSA’s anniversary meeting scheduled to be held in December.

Dubai has become the first city in the world to have its own Microsoft-designed font. The font will have typeface both in Latin and Arabic script. It will be made available in 23 languages. The font was launched by the Crown Prince of Dubai Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The US-India Business Council (USIBC) has selected Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu for the ‘Transformative Chief Minister Award’ for his role in advancing the US-India partnership at the state level.  The award will be presented to him at the USIBC West Coast Summit in the Silicon Valley on May 8th. The Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT,  Aruna Sundararajan honoured with the ‘Transformative Leadership Award’ for excellence in public service and for her role in advancing US-India cooperation and Digital India. Amitabh Kant, CEO of Niti Aayog was the last year’s recipient of this award USIBC.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed three agreement to strengthen co-operation between two countries. An agreement for a cultural exchange programme for the years 2017-2020 was signed. A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Foreign Services Institute (FSI) of India and the Diplomacy Academy of Turkey. Indian Railways is expected to launch a new 20 coach premier train called the Tejas Express connecting Mumbai and Goa in June. The Tejas service was promised in the Union Railway Budget 2016-17. The train will be fitted with automatic doors, LCD screens onboard wifi, Tea / Coffee vending machines, magazines and snack tables, will also have food curated by celebrity chefs. The train will operate at speed of 130kmph and above.

Space X has successfully landed its Falcon 9 rocket on solid ground again, after launching the vehicle from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It's the fourth time Space X has landed one of its rocket on land, and the 11th time the company has successfully recovered a rocket post - launch. It's the first mission that Space X has done for the US military.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will soon be launching a comprehensive programme to improve road connectivity across the nation under proposed Bharatmala Pariyojana. In the first phase, Project Bharatmala will see the construction of 20,000 km in highways. Bharatmala is the India's second-largest highways project.

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the first Automatic Weather Station (AWS) at Dongargaon in Nagpur. Use of AWS :- The Automated Weather Stations (AWS) will be helpful in measuring the wind direction, wind speed, air temperature, relative humidity, and record the amount of rainfall.  The gathered information will be shared among the farmers by making them available on 'Mahavedh portal' (Maharashtra agriculture weather information network) as well as on the Skymet mobile application.
