The Ministry of Civil Aviation is adding a digital experience for air travelers through DigiYatra platform. The ‘DigiYatra’ is an industry-led initiative co-ordinated by the Ministry in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India’s vision to transform the nation into a digitally empowered society. The initiative will help passengers plan their trips efficiently by identifying price trends and estimate future airfares at the time of ticket booking. Passengers will also get relevant information pertaining to various facilities, protocols, airline timings, queue lengths at airports.

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice has cleared the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Karnataka Amendment) Bill 2017 for the Kambala. Kambala is the traditional slush track buffalo race that is held annually in coastal districts of Karnataka to entertain rural people of the area. The Karnataka high court had banned the Kambala along with bull-cart race in the state while hearing a case filed by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) citing animal cruelty.   

India and the UN Office for South Cooperation have launched a partnership fund to promote sustainable development projects across the developing world. The India-UN Development Partnership Fund was launched on occasion of the World Oceans Day at a special ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of India. The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) was established with an objective to promote, coordinate and support South-South and triangular cooperation across the world and within the United Nations system.

Sahithi Pingali, a twelfth grader from Bengaluru will get a minor planet in Milky Way named after her as a reward for developing an integrated mobile phone app and lake monitoring kit to monitor pollution in water bodies. Sahithi Pingali had presented her paper titled “An Innovative Crowdsourcing Approach to Monitoring Freshwater Bodies” at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is considered as the largest pre-college scientific research event in the world. Sahithi won the Gold Medal for her research on ‘An Innovative Crowdsourcing Approach to Monitoring Freshwater Bodies’ on Bengaluru’s lakes at ISWEEEP (The International Sustainable World Engineering Energy Environment Project) Olympiad held in Texas.

Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) appointed B K Manjunath as a Part-time chairman for three years. Manjunath is a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and a practicing charted accountant for the last 25 years. Virat Kohli has been ranked 89th on the 2017 Forbes list of ‘The World’s highest paid athletes’ with a total pay of $ 22 million that includes $ three million from salary and winnings and another 19 million from endorsements. The list has been topped by Ronaldo with a total pay of 93 million dollars.

Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan was admitted into the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Hall of Fame. ICC Chairman Dave Richardson handed the former off-spinner the Hall of Fame memento in front of the Sri Lankan squad who were playing India in a Champions Trophy Group B Game. Muralitharan was awarded the honor along with Arthur Morris, George Lohmann and Karen Rolton by fellow ICC Cricket Hall of Famers and members of the media.

The second National Health Editors Conference on Yoga will be inaugurated by Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge), Shri Shripad Yesso Naik at National Media Centre in New Delhi. The Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) grouping established a one million dollar fund for boosting media cooperation in the five-nation grouping. The proposal is also aimed at the joint development of BRICS digital media, financial information services and promoting people- to-people contacts.
