 An e-taxi service launched in the city of Hyderabad to mark the World Environment Day. Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan flagged off five e-taxis at an event organized on Necklace Road. The e-taxis have been launched by Green Mile, an electric vehicle infrastructure start-up company working towards sustainable transportation.

India ranked 45th down from last year, in terms of competitiveness in the annual rankings compiled by the International Institute for Management Development's (IMD) World Competitiveness Center. Switzerland and Singapore were ranked second and third respectively. The United States of America (USA) ranked 4th in the list.  It has been publishing the rankings every year since 1989. This year's list comprises 63 countries with Cyprus and Saudi Arabia making their first appearance.

The 2017 Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) titled ‘The Age of Focus‘ placed India at the top position among 30 developing countries on ease of doing business in the retail sector. This is the 16th edition of the Global Retail Development Index (GRDI). The GRDI is annually published by London-based business consultancy A T Kearney. The index placed China at the second place.

The Ministry of Rural Development selected Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh as one among the 17 districts across the nation for the MGNREGA annual award for effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGA) Act during 2015-16. The award would be presented at the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Sammelan to the district program coordinator and District Collector on June 19 in New Delhi.

India has successfully test-fired its first all-weather tracked-chassis Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QR-SAM) from a mobile launcher at Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. The Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QR-SAM) was jointly developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Limited.

Space X launched its first recycled cargo ship to the International Space Station. An unnamed Falcon rocket lifted off from Florida's Kennedy Space Center with a Dragon capsule that made a station delivery nearly three years ago. This is Space X's 11 mission under a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) contract.

The Indian Army is expected to soon open up combat positions for women. At present, women are employed in select areas such as medical, legal, educational, signals and engineering wings of the Army but are not offered combat roles due to operational concerns and logistical issues.  Few countries such as Germany, Australia, Canada, the U.S, Britain, Denmark, Finland, France, Norway, Sweden and Israel have allowed women in combat roles.

Reliance Communications (RCom) Chairman Anil Ambani confirmed the merged entities of RCom and Aircel will be called Aircom. These merged entities are Reliance Communications and Maxis Communications Berhad (MCB). The merged company will be one of India’s largest private sector companies. It has an asset base of over 65,000 crore rupees and net worth of 35,000 crore rupees.

India will launch a rocket the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark III. It has a height of 43.43 meters and lift off the mass of 640 tons. It is a three-stage heavy lift launch vehicle developed by ISRO. The vehicle has two solid strap-ons, a core liquid booster, and a cryogenic upper stage. GSLV Mk III is designed to carry 4 ton class of satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) or about 10 tons to Low Earth Orbit (LEO), which is about twice the capability of GSLV Mk II.

The Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council cleared the pending rules, including transition provisions and returns, with all the States agreeing to the July 1 rollout of the tax. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley chaired the 15th meeting of the GST Council, which is scheduled to decide on the tax rate of six items, including gold, textiles, footwear. The GST Council last month fitted over 1,200 goods and 500 services in the tax brackets of 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent.
