The Human Resource Ministry constituted a new nine-member panel headed by space scientist K Kasturirangan to frame a new National Education Policy (NEP). The panel includes former IAS officer K.J. Alphonse Kanamthanam, who was instrumental in making Kerala’s Kottayam and Ernakulam districts achieve 100% literacy. Another member of the panel will be Ram Shanker Kureel who has wide experience in the field of agricultural sciences and management. He is also the Vice-Chancellor of Baba Saheb Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.

Ankush Dahiya (60kg) won a gold medal and L Devendro Singh (52kg) won a silver medal on the final day of the Ulaanbaatar Cup boxing tournament in Mongolia. The 19-year-old Ankush, who is a former Asian youth silver medallist, defeated Korean Man Choe Chol.

The World Taekwondo Federation changed its name to World Taekwondo recently. The launch of a new logo reflects a “commitment to evolving and adapting to remain relevant with today’s modern audiences”. The body was called the World Taekwondo Federation since 1973. Its headquarters situated in South Korea. 

The 135 JagannathYatra starts from June 25 and ends on July 3 is celebrated every year on AshadhShuklaDwitiya in Odisha. Indian Railways will start the final location survey of the 498 km long Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line at Leh in Jammu and Kashmir. The proposed new rail line will connect all important locations between Bilaspur and Leh namely Sunder Nagar Mandi, Manali, Tandi, Keylong, Koksar, Darcha, Upshi, and Karu. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the work for the final location survey at an estimated cost of Rs 157.77 crores.

Palbinder Kaur Shergill becomes the first turbaned Sikh woman to be appointed as Canada’s Supreme Court Judge. The appointment of Shergill as Supreme Court Judge of Canada is considered as a milestone for the Sikh community in Canada. The announcement was made by the minister of justice and attorney general of Canada Jody Wilson-Raybould.
