Delhi Industries Minister Satyendar Jain appointed as new chairperson cum managing director of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DSIIDC). IAS officers are appointed to the post of the chairperson of DSIIDC. He replaces K R Meena, an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) of the 1993 batch. 

The Chinese activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo died at the age of 61. The country’s most famous political prisoner was being treated for terminal liver cancer in a heavily-guarded hospital in north-east China.  Mr Liu was awarded the Nobel Prize.

The United States House of Representatives passed an amendment to National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), 2018, a $621.5 billion defence expenditure bill to advance defence cooperation with India. India related amendment in the bill was adopted by a voice vote in the House by 344-81. The NDAA is a United States federal law specifying the budget and expenditures of the United States Department of Defence.

India’s Sundar Singh Gurjar won a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event at World Para Athletics Championships held in London, United Kingdom. Sundar recorded his personal best effort of 60.36m ahead of Dinesh Priyantha Herath (Sri Lanka) came second with 57.93m, followed by defending champion Guo Chunliang (China) with 56.14m. Sundar Singh belongs to Karauli district in Rajasthan.

The Central Government appointed Mukesh Kumar Jain as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Oriental Bank of Commerce, a Public sector bank. His appointment is for a period of three years. He was an Executive Director at Punjab & Sind Bank.

BMW motors have opened a new research and development (R&D) centre in China, the largest outside of Germany. The centre will focus on new energy technology to establish a complete R&D and production chain in China. China has become the largest single market for BMW automotive vehicles. Earlier in May, the BMW assembly plant in Shenyang’s Dadong district began operations.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for setting up of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Hospital in Gorakhpur. It will help to those living in eastern Uttar Pradesh to get health care services. The hospital will have 750 free beds and the project is set to cost Rs 1,750 crore. The foundation of the AIIMS at Gorakhpur was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.

World Youth Skills Day is being observed globally on 15th July. The theme of WSD for the year is "Skills for the Future of Work". The objective of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of investing in youth skills development.

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee received the first copy of the book “President’s Lady” (Pranaber Preyosi) on his wife Late Smt. Suvra Mukherjee from Vice President of India, Mohd. Hamid Ansari who formally released it at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The author of the book is Sangeeta Ghosh. Late Smt. Suvra Mukherjee was essentially a private person with a strong interest in music (particularlyTagore music) and paintings.She restricted herself to music, painting and writing and she tried to take Tagore music to a non-Bengali audience.

YES Bank received $150 million funding from the United States Government and Wells Fargo to increase lending to support women entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises in India.  It is the third round of funding to the bank as part of an arrangement with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) -the US government development finance institution and Wells Fargo. According to the agreement, OPIC will provide $ 75 million in financing jointly arranged by Wells Fargo Bank to Yes Bank.

Indian Railways launched India’s first solar powered diesel multiple units (DEMU) broad gauge trains.  It is 1600 Horse Power (HP) train with all solar powered coaches. The train will run from Sarai Rohilla in Delhi to Farukh Nagar in Haryana. The solar powered DEMU train has six trailer coaches, with 16 solar panels of 300 watts fitted.These solar panels have been manufactured under ‘Make in India’ initiative.
