For the benefit of both domestic and international tourists, Tamil Nadu Tourism Department has launched a mobile app ‘pinakin’ with information on tourism in Tamil Nadu with audio facilities.The app, in two languages — Tamil and English — covers world heritage tourist sites like Mamallapuram, Thanjavur Big Temple, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram. The app can be downloaded free of cost from iStore or Playstore.

India and the US have signed an MoU to collaborate in the fields of developmental activities and aid in third world countries.The MoU has been signed between the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and Development Partnership Administration (DPA) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. MCC is a US agency providing eligible countries with grants to fund country-led solutions for reducing poverty through sustainable economic growth. DPA looks after implementation of India’s development cooperation programmes with partner countries.The two countries would collaborate on exchange of information and experience in sectors or issues pertaining to project development or implementation in partner countries. India and US might also provide advisory or technical assistance to third countries regarding sector policy reform, project and sector management, project implementation, and economic growth promotion strategies in relevant sectors.

Team India's skipper and batting masterclass Virat Kohli on Sunday (Jan 15) surpassed Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar's yet another milestone. Kohli, batting for the first time as a full-time skipper, scored 122 off 108 deliveries against England in the first ODI at Pune and powered India to a historic win.After slamming his 17th ODI hundred during the run chase, Kohli - the Run Machine - also equalled Tendulkar's record of most ODI centuries, batting second.He also broke Tendulkar's record in bringing up most successful centuries while chasing. Kohli slammed a record 15th ODI century in successful chases and surpassed Tendulkar's previous record of 14 tonnes, which transformed into a win.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the government has taken up the development of water transport in the state with utmost seriousness. He was speaking after inaugurating the first solar-powered boat of the state water transport department, 'Aditya' at Vaikom. The boat will do service between Vaikom and Thavanakkadavu. The construction of the Rs 1.50-crore boat took nearly two years. The boat has a seating capacity of 75. The boat was manufactured based on the studies conducted at the ship technology department of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat).

Pinaka rocket, which has now transformed into guided Pinaka, was successfully test fired from a defence test facility off Odisha coast .The guided Pinaka has been combinedly developed by Pune-based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Hyderabad-based Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL). Pinaka Rocket Mark-II, which has evolved from Pinaka Mark-I, is equipped with navigation, guidance and control kit and is converted to a guided Pinaka. This conversion has facilitated enhancement of its strike range and considerably improved its accuracy.

India and Sri Lanka today signed an MoU to construct 3000 rain water harvesting systems at a cost of 30 crore Sri Lankan Rupees in northern Jaffna District. The project envisages construction of rainwater harvesting systems for 3000 households in selected divisions of Tamil majority Jaffna District.The scope of the project also includes training of the households on operation and maintenance of the systems. It aims to assist people by supporting resettlement efforts focused on reintegrating internally displaced families in Jaffna by providing clean drinking water supply facility to households.

Gujarat clinched their maiden Ranji Trophy title as they rode on Parthiv Patel’s innings of 143 to beat defending champions Mumbai by five wickets on the final day at the Holkar Stadium.Parthi and Manprit Juneja put up a 116-run stand after Gujarat were reduced to 89 for the loss of three wickets. Gujarat became the 17th team to lift the title. With this title, Gujarat have won the domestic titles in T20, one-day and Ranji.They are only the fourth team to achieve this feat.

Alia Bhatt was honoured with the Best Actress Award .'Dangal' again- the wrestling drama was awarded the Best Film and Nitesh Tiwari bagged the Best Director Award.Sonam Kapoor won the Critics Award for Best Actor (Female) for her portrayal of Neerja Bhanot in the biopic 'Neerja'. Actors Shahid Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee got the Best Actor (Male) nod for their performances in 'Udta Punjab' and 'Aligarh' respectively.

The Indian Army celebrated its 69th Army Day on January 15, 2017. The day is celebrated every year on January 15 to respect the Lieutenant General of India, K. M. Cariappa (Kodandera Madappa Cariappa) who was the first Indian Army’s Commander-in-Chief.General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff reviewed the Army Day Parade at the Cariappa Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment. He also awarded fifteen Sena Medals (including five posthumously) for individual acts of Gallantry and fourteen COAS Unit Citations for commendable performance of their respective units.Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 15th  saluted the courage and invaluable service of the soldiers and officers. Large number of serving, veteran and civil dignitaries paid homage to martyrs at the Vijay Smarak.
