The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved doubling of tracks of three railway lines and their electrification in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the construction of an electrified second line between Vanchi-Maniyachchi-Nagercoil via Tirunelveli, Madurai-Vanchi and Maniyachchi-Tuticorin, and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Kanyakumari. The estimated cost of the Vanchi-Maniyachchi-Nagercoil via Tirunelveli project will be Rs 1,003.94 crores. All the three projects are expected to be completed by the year 2020-2021.

The Lok Sabha passed the Central Goods and Services Tax (Extension to Jammu and Kashmir) Bill, 2017 and the Integrated Goods and Services Tax. The first bill provides for the extension of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017 to  Jammu and Kashmir. Under this different constitution procedure, President Pranab Mukherjee introduced two ordinances regarding the introduction of the GST.

The Union Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS) countries for the establishment of the BRICS Agriculture Research Platform (BRICS-ARP). During the 7th BRICS Summit held in July 2015 at Ufa in Russia Prime Minister Narendra Modi established a BRICS Agriculture Research Centre a gift to the entire world.  The Central Government will promote sustainable agricultural development and poverty alleviation through strategic cooperation.

The Indian Army has developed Humraaz mobile application through which serving soldiers can track details like postings and promotions. The app will also enable soldiers to view their monthly salary slips. The Humraaz mobile app has been developed in-house by the Army.
