Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has received the lifetime achievement award, at the 80th Bengal Film Journalists' Association (BFJA) awards. The BFJA, the oldest association of film scribes in the country was founded in 1937. Bengali film actor Prosenjit Chatterjee was given the best actor award for his role in "Sankhachil",  Rituparna Sengupta was given the best actress crown for her role in "Rajkahini" along with Paoli Dam for "Natoker Moto" (2015).

China and Iran have signed the first agreement on the reconfiguration of Iran's Arak reactor. The deal was concluded between the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and a Chinese company at the official ceremony in the Austrian capital Vienna. The reconstruction of the Arak heavy-water reactor is a part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) deal, which Tehran signed with international mediators in July 2015 in return for sanctions easing. President of Iran is Hussan Rouhani and its currency is Iranian Rial. Xi Jinping is President of China and its currency is Renminbi.

Canada's Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan gifted his coin of honour (which he received from the Government of Canada) to Punjabi Singer and Actor Diljit Dosanjh on the sets of the reality show 'Rising Star'. Harjit Sajjan had flown to India to attend the reality show in which Diljit features as a judge.

The Russian State Duma has banned parents from naming their children with exotic names, which include numbers, symbols and swear words. The new law amends the Family Code with an article, stating that numbers, alphanumeric designations, symbols, punctuation marks (except hyphen) can’t be used by parents when naming their kids. The deputies also outlawed obscenities, ranks and tiles from being names of parts of children’s names in Russia.Until now, the registry offices in the country had no power to deny registry of a name for being dissonant, offensive or unpronounceable.

Anastasia Boil from Russia was crowned the winner of the Miss USSR UK contest . Over 6 lakh litres of blood has been wasted across India in the last 5 years due to lack of coordination between blood banks and hospitals. Maharashtra, UP and Karnataka bagged the top three positions in the wastage of red blood cells. In 2016-17 alone, over 6.57 lakh units of blood and its products were discarded.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud appointed his son Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the new country's ambassador to the United States among other appointments. Prince Khalid replaced Prince Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turkey bin Abdullah Al Saud at the diplomatic post and would be awarded the rank of minister, the Saudi Press Agency reported citing a royal order. The move is seen as a step to provide Trump with a direct line to the Saudi royal family.

The Indian navy successfully tested the supersonic Brahmos and attack cruise missile from stealth frigate, teg in the Bay of Bengal. The missile which last month was tested with an extended range of 450 km from the earlier 290 km. The name Brahmos is a portmanteau formed from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and Moskva of Russia.

India and South Korea inked a memorandum of understanding with India to cooperate in shipbuilding for military use.  The memorandum was signed by both India's secretary of defence production, Ashok Kumar Gupta, and South Korean Minister of Defense Acquisition Program Administration Chang Myoung-jin in India "for Defence Industry Co-operation in Shipbuilding,"  India has chosen state-owned Hindustan Shipyard Limited, or HSL, to cooperate with a shipyard nominated by South Korea. 

Malaysia Airlines planes will be tracked minute-by-minute using the new system, which boasts complete worldwide coverage, even over “ocean, polar, and remote regions.” The satellite-tracking system is operated by a trio of companies: Aireon, SITAONAIR, and FlightAware. It uses a constellation of 72 communication satellites operated by US firm Iridium (whose main business is selling satellite phones connected to its network). The flights will be tracked using an industry-wide standard known as “Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast ” or ADS-B, which usually shares data on flight location via ground-based receivers. Malaysia Airlines chief operating officer (COO) - Captain Izham Ismail.

TAL Manufacturing Solutions Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Motors Ltd. has created India's first industrial robot called BRABO BRABO stands for “Bravo Robot”.It has been developed Indigenously for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in India. The robot is primarily developed to repeatedly perform high volume, dangerous and time-consuming tasks ranging from handling of raw materials to packaging of finished products.It was manufacturated at the TAL's Pune factory.

Nirmala Sitharaman, Union minister for commerce and industry, adopted Kalena Agrahara lake near Ban nerghatta . Illegal garbage dumping and release of untreated sewage have degraded the lake, and residents have held several protests demanding its restoration.irmala visited the lake  and the Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka said she would provide funds for the upkeep of the lake under the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.

101-year-old woman Man Kaur from India wins 100m sprint in the 100+ age category at the World Masters Games at Trusts Arena in Auckland. Kaur clocked one minute 14 seconds -- ending a mere 64.42 seconds off Usain Bolt's 100m world record set in 2009. This is the 17th gold medal in the Indian athlete's remarkable late-blooming career.

Social activist Prafulla Samantra was announced one of six winners of the Goldman Environmental Prize, in San Francisco, Monday. The other five person are Uros Macerl (Slovenia), Mark Lopez (United States), Rodrigo Tot (Guatemala), Rodrigue Mugaruka Katembo (Democratic Republic of Congo) , Wendy Bowman (Australia) The winners will be awarded the prize  at the San Francisco Opera House, followed by a ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. on April 26.  

The National Health Mission (NHM) in Haryana launched a mobile-based application named 'Kilkari' to create awareness among pregnant women, parents and health workers on the importance of ante and post natal care, institutional delivery, and immunization. The application, Kilkari, was launched during the concluding day of the 'State-level Orientation Workshop' that began at the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare. From the second trimester of pregnancy, till the child is one-year-old, the application will deliver 72 times appropriate audio messages to registered mobile numbers on pregnancy, child and childbirth care every week.  SSP Chawrasia and Aditi Ashok were among the winners at the second Golf Industry Association (GIA) Awards 2017. Aditi, who finished second in the Ladies European Tour (LET) order of merit in 2016 with the help of two victories, bagged Outstanding Achievement as a Player award. Chawrasia, who successfully defended his Indian Open title in 2017, bagged the Award for the Men's Player of the Year. Ali Sher, the Delhi Golf Club caddy-turned-pro-golfer, was feted for an Outstanding Playing Career. Ali Sher won the Indian Open back in 1991 and was honored with an Arjuna Award in the same year.

The Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman A S Kiran Kumar  is trying to increase its capacity to deliver by scaling up the frequency of launches to 12 per year from the seven at present by building more satellites and lowering the cost of access to space. Earlier, only doing 2-3 (launches) per year, then it increased upto to 4-5, last few years there been doing seven launches. Their missiles are 8-9 PSLV per year ,two GSLV-Mk II and one GSLV-Mk III.

The Indian Railways will launch in July the Utkrisht Double-Decker AC Yatri (Uday) Express, a special class service for overnight journey that will ply on high-demand routes.Equipped with comfortable reclining chairs, the 120- seater AC coach will have large automatic food and tea/cold drink vending machines for passengers. Uday service will ply on high-demand routes like Delhi- Lucknow and the fare will be lower than that of 3AC class in regular mail/express trains.There will be large LCD screens in every coach with Wi- Fi speaker system. The USP of the double-decker Uday is providing better passenger amenities in less than 3AC fare.

World Day For Animals In Laboratories also known as World Lab Animal Day is observed every year on 24 April. The surrounding week has come to be known as "World Week for Animals In Laboratories. The National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) describe the day as an "international day of commemoration  for animals in laboratories. World Day For Animals In Laboratories was established in 1979 by the British National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS).The date 24 April was chosen as it marked the birthday of former NAVS president Hugh Dowding, 1st Baron Dowding. NAVS and other groups opposed to animal research have claimed that World Day For Animals In Laboratories is recognised by the United Nations.However, the day is not included on the official list of United Nations observances.

Astronaut Peggy Whitson on Monday broke the record for most cumulative days spent in space by an American astronaut, surpassing Jeff Williams' record of 534 days. Peggy Annette Whitson (born February 9, 1960) is an American biochemistry researcher, NASA astronaut and former NASA Chief Astronaut.  NASA and the Russian space agency Roscosmos, signed an agreement to extend Peggy Whitson’s stay on the space station into Expedition 52. Rather than returning to Earth with her Expedition 51 crew mates Oleg Novitsky of Roscosmos and Thomas Pesquet of ESA (European Space Agency), in June as originally planned, Whitson will remain on the space station and return home with NASA’s Jack Fischer and Roscosmos’ Fyodor Yurchikhin. That landing is targeted for September.

The Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj  has made a provision enabling people to apply for passports in Hindi. The move comes after President Pranab Mukherjee recently accepted recommendations made in this regard by the Committee of Parliament on official language, via its ninth report. The report was submitted in 2011. The panel has suggested that bilingual forms should be made available by all passport offices and forms filled by hindi should be accepted.

A freight train connecting Russia with China has arrived in an inland city bringing goods from Moscow to the former revolutionary heartland of the Communist Party. The train connecting Russia with Jiangxi province .The train was expected to bring resources from Europe and boost local development of Ganzhou Ganzhou, an inland area with a complex landscape, was important in early revolutionary activities due to its remote mountain ranges.he government tried to push regional development in the past few decades, but Ganzhou won no major projects.

 India has replaced Japan as world's number two importer of liquefied petroleum gas or LPG, thus giving a push to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a 'safer kitchen' Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of government's clean fuel initiative has also promised free LPG connections to poor women who fall under the category of below poverty line or BPL. Substantial number of households that particularly in rural parts of the country use fuels that increase level of air pollution and also expose people to life threatening diseases. According to data from Oil Ministry's, Oil Ministry's Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell, country imported 23 per cent more LPG in financial year 2016-17, a figure that stands at 11 million tonnes.The report added that Japan recorded a drop of 3.2 per cent in LPG imports during the period under review to 10.6 million tonnes. China continues to occupy numero UNO position as world's largest LPG importer.

Bollywood film "Newton" has won the best film honor at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The lead actor of the film is Raj Kumar Rao. Amit Masurkar-directed "Newton", is a political satire. It had its world premiere at the 67th Berlin Film Festival where it won the International Federation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) award in its Forum segment. " National awards namely Deendayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar, Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar to be conferred upon Panchayati Raj Institutions and e-Panchayat Puraskars to State Governments. The Kuther Gram Panchayat of Himachal Pradesh will also get this award for its best works. This Gram Panchayat was the first to become open defecation free (ODF) and was awarded sum of five lakh Rupees.

Google is apparently working on a new feature called ‘Copyless Paste.’ The new feature, which is accessible under Chrome’s flags subsection and is available in version 59 and later, automatically copies useful information and suggests it for pasting in apps where it might be relevant. Chrome flags are a way to enable or disable functionality in Chrome that may not be fully implemented, standardised, or that might still be a little buggy. Google started the work on this feature in February. Presumably 'Copyless Paste' will arrive in the next few months.

The government on Sunday denied any involvement of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) or the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in restricting foreign models from entering Taj Mahal wearing saffron scarves inscribed with name of Lord Ram. A couple of international models, sporting such scarves, were reportedly asked to remove them when they were about to enter the 17th century monument last week. The ministry clarified that no such action was taken by any employee of the CISF and the ASI.  The officials informed that there is no restriction on colour, religious design or inscriptions on the scarves or dresses of visitors coming to see the Tajmahal.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha released coffee scented postage stamps at the General Post Office, Bengaluru. The stamps, which are being printed at the India Security Press, will be priced at Rs. 100. Bhutan first introduced the concept of aromatic stamps in 1973. India introduced its first aromatic stamp in 2006, with a 15 sandalwood-scented stamp.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired NITI Aayog's Governing Council which is poised to draw up a 15-year development road map called 'Vision 2030.'  NITI Aayog’s 'vice-chairman Arvind  ' presented this roadmap. "This 15 year roadmap will achieve social goals such as poverty reduction, and improving health and sanitation . A three year " Action Agenda" from 2017- 2018 to 2019 - 2020 is being worked out to assess funding requirements.
