The Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto (SBCZ) in the northeastern state of Nagaland, India, is finally set for dedication after almost a decade since its construction began. Largest church building in Asia, the Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto stands tall at 1864.9 m above the sea level and measures 23,73,476 Sq.ft.

The World Bank has approved a loan of $375 million for capacity augmentation of National Waterway-1 (NW-1) on the river Ganga under the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP).  The  financial assistance from the World Bank would help to develop the Rs 5,369-crore NW-1 from Haldia to Varanasi. The project will enable commercial navigation of vessels with capacity of 1,500-2,000 deadweight tonnes along a 1,390-km stretch. NW-1 is a waterway of national significance passing through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, serving the cities of Allahabad, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Bhagalpur, Patna, Howrah, Haldia and Kolkata.

RBI has decided to observe the week June 5-9, 2017 as Financial Literacy Week across the country. The literacy week will focus on four broad themes, viz. KYC, Exercising Credit Discipline, Grievance Redressal and Going Digital (UPI and *99#). An online quiz will be hosted for the general public on the four broad themes to generate interest/awareness about financial literacy. Banks are advised to conduct special camps on each of the five days in backward/unbanked areas.

The Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd (GNFC) won the prestigious Golden Peacock Award 2017 in the category of Innovative Product / Service for pioneering a cashless township transformation model. The Golden Peacock Awards were established by the Institute of Directors (IOD) in India in 1991. The GNFC won from among 313 applicants for Golden Peacock Global Award for Innovative Product/Service. Applicants for 2017 included SMEs, and public, private, and government enterprises. Justice Dr. Arijit Pasayat, a former judge of the Supreme Court was the Chairman of Jury. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, the managing director of the GNFC, was given the award at a ceremony at the 27th World Congress at the Dubai Global Convention.

International Conference and Exhibition on Steel Industry 'India Steel 2017' was held at Mumbai Exhibition center in Mumbai from 19th-21st April 2017. It was inaugurated by Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh. First of its Kind exhibition-cum-conference was organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCO) along with Union Ministry of Steel. India is the Third largest producer of crude steel in the world.

General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) has become the first re-insurer to open an office at India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). Wholly-owned by the government, GIC Re, which supported the growth of general insurance business in the country through its four wholly-owned subsidiaries for about 30 years, was designated as the national reinsurer in 2001. It provides reinsurance support to life and non-life insurers in India and abroad. Mrs. Alice G Vaidyan is the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of GIC .It is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The Reserve Bank of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Supervisory Cooperation and Exchange of Supervisory Information” with Bank of Guyana. The MoU was signed by Dr. Gobind N. Ganga - Governor of Bank of Guyana and Dr. Urjit R. Patel - Governor of Reserve Bank of India. The Reserve Bank has entered into MoU, Letter for Supervisory Co-operation and Statement of Co-operation with supervisors of a few countries to promote greater co-operation and share supervisory information.Earlier, RBI has signed 40 such MoUs, one Letter for Supervisory Co-operation and one Statement of Co-operation. Dr. Gobind N. Ganga is the Governor of Bank of Guyana .Guyana Country in South America with its capital in Georgetown.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) conducted its first-ever mock exercise on forest fire in Uttarakhand to help improve the preparedness and response mechanism in the event of a forest fire. The event  was conducted on the principle of Incident Response System (IRS), which identifies stakeholders and clearly attributes roles and responsibilities to each one of them. Senior National Conference (NC) leader and former speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Ali Mohammad Naik, passed away. He was 87. Naik, a resident of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was suffering from chest disease . He had served as general secretary of Plebiscite Front under NC founder and former chief minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. The Plebiscite Front advocated holding of a referendum in the state for deciding its future.

The Indian Railways will increase 3AC coaches in long distance trains to cater to the growing demand for air-conditioned coaches. Railway data shows that between April 1, 2016 and March 10, 2017, 3AC coaches carried 17 per cent of all passengers in long-distance trains which accounted for 32.60 per cent of all the earnings from passenger fares. Generally, Sleeper class carried 59.78 per cent passengers and contributed about 44.78 per cent of passenger earnings. Last year the share of sleeper coaches was over 60 per cent of passengers and 45.94 per cent of earnings.  The decision has been taken to augment 3AC coaches gradually in some long distance trains. The railways recently launched the Hamsafar Express with 3AC class only and results are positive.

 Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up 40 Yoga wellness centres in 40 districts during current financial year. Of them 23 will be set up at Ayurvedic hospitals, 12 at homeopathic and 7 at Unani hospitals and colleges. State will seek assistance from union government to set up such centres in remaining 35 districts. After viewing presentation of Ayush department , Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced to start post graduate courses at Government Ayurvedic college and hospital Varanasi, Unani college Allahabad, Government Homeopathy college Allahabad and TT college Lucknow. The officials are directed to set up treatment centres at Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Saharanpur and Banda under Ayurvedic and Unani systems of treatment.

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given (I) Ex-post facto approval for introduction of (i) Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-third Amendment) Bill 2017 and (ii) National Commission for Backward Classes (Repeal) Bill, 2017 in the Parliament; and (II) Approval for retention of posts/incumbents and office premises held by the existing National Commission for Backward Classes which was proposed new National Commission for Backward Class Repeal of the National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993 along with Savings Clause for namely the National Commission for Backward Classes (Repeal) Bill, 2017.  Article 338B for socially and educationally backward classes by name of National Commission for Backward Classesinsertion of Clause (26C) under Article 366 with modified definition.

Dr Bhakti Yadav is Indore’s first woman MBBS graduate. At the age of 91, when almost everyone retires from their job, she continues to treat her patients  for free. She has been conferred with the Padma Shri award this year. Dr Yadav has been offering free treatment for the last 68 years and is known for her close association with her patients.

Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has assured to bring the national nutrition scheme on track in Assam in a meeting with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. They discussed modalities to strengthen nutritional mechanism for women and children and provide nutritional food sachets in schools and other centres where women and children come and assemble. The Union Minister also hailed the state government’s role in conservation of rhino and other endangered species in national parks and other wildlife sanctuaries in Assam.

Apple outlined a plan to train operators of self-driving cars , the latest clues to the company's autonomous vehicle technology aspirations. Apple was granted a permit to test self-driving cars on April 14 by the California Department of Motor Vehicles but the company has never revealed about the testing. Apple is looking for new hit products and autonomous car technology is expected to revolutionize the traditional auto industry.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries regained its status as India’s most valued firm by market capitalisation, overtaking Tata Group’s crown jewel TCS. Shares of RIL were trading 3.43% higher at Rs 1,416.40 on BSE  giving the company a market capitalisation of Rs 4,60,291.20 crore - the highest for any listed firm in the country. The Reliance Industries shares erased some of the early gains to close at Rs1,399.75, up 2.22% on BSE. The TCS shares closed down 0.74% at Rs 2,311.20

*E-sports (Video Gaming)* will be included in the official sporting programme of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The move is the result of a partnership between *Alisports* , the sports wing of e-commerce giant Alibaba, and the *Olympic Council of *Asia* (OCA) It will also be a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Palembang, Indonesia.

NASA released a photo taken from the Cassini spacecraft that shows a tiny-looking Earth from the view between Saturn’s icy rings. The image was taken from the spacecraft on April 12, when Cassini was approximately 870 million miles from Earth. A zoomed-in version of the same photo also shows Earth’s moon visible to the planet’s left. The Cassini mission is a joint project involving NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Italian Space Agency; it is managed by the Pasadena-based Jet Propulsion Laboratory.The mission is set to end on Sept. 15, with the spacecraft crashing into Saturn.

Emphasising “digital inclusion for Digital India”, Union Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad has inaugurated three welfare initiatives that would facilitate access to justice for the poor. The 3 schemes are: ‘Pro-bono (in public interest) legal services’, ‘Tele-law service’ and ‘Nyaya Mitra’ Pro-bono legal services’ where lawyers can register themselves to volunteer pro-bono services for litigants who are unable to afford it. ‘Tele-law service’ seeks to connect litigants with lawyers through video conferencing facilities.  Nyaya Mitra, a retired judicial officer, or an executive officer with judicial experience, will be put in charge of assisting those suffering due to judicial delays.

The 2017 BRICS Film Festival will be held in Chengdu, southwest China’s Sichuan Province from June 23 to 27.BRICS is an association of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. There will be 30 films from BRICS countries screened during the festival, including an anthology by five directors from the aforementioned countries. Chinese Director Xie Fei will be the president of the festival jury. The first BRICS film Festival was held in New Delhi, India , last September.
