The Union government has pledged to provide Rs. 800 crore under AMRUT scheme to rejuvenate lakes especially the Bellandur Lake the largest and most polluted water body in . Bengaluru which was once known for its interconnected lake systems which provided a reliable source of water has seen major issues with the lakes in past few years.
Sewage treatement plant : If the allotted funds, Rs. 500 crore is for laying down a 74-km trunk sewage pipeline, and Rs. 162 crore is to set up four sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Bellandur lake. The remaining is for the Urban Development Ministry for local water conservation activities.Detergents were touted to be the primary reason for the frothing in the 927-acre Bellandur lake. Phosphates form a major component in household detergents, and they make their way into the lake through the estimated 480 million litres of sewage that flows into Bellandur and Vathur lakes.Of this, 250 mld (million litres per day) of sewage is untreated, while another 230 mld is let into the lake after treatment. They do not disintegrate, and percolate in the water and make their way downstream with the water used in agriculture.

The month-long Simhastha Kumbh Mela, largest congregation of Hindus, begans in Ujjain from 22 april. Large number of people have converged in the holy city for the mela, held after a gap of every 12 years at Ujjain, which is also the abode of Lord Mahakaleshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlings in the country.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on 21 April 2016 suspended the accreditation of the National Anti-Doping Laboratory of Beijing. It prohibits the Chinese laboratory from carrying out any WADA-related anti-doping activities including all analyses of urine and blood samples.The suspension was for up to four months with immediate effect, although the laboratory has 21 days to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.During the suspension period, samples are required to be transported securely to another WADA-accredited laboratory.WADA suspended the accreditation of the laboratory as it does not meet International Standard for Laboratories requirements.
On 16 April 2016, WADA revoked the accreditation of the Moscow Antidoping Center, which was suspended on 10 November 2015 after an independent investigation found that laboratory director Grigori Rodchenkov had ordered nearly 1500 samples to be destroyed.Rodchenkov quickly resigned amid the doping scandal that led to banning of Russian athletes from international competition by the International Association of Athletics Federations. This ban could sideline the Russian track and field stars from the Rio Olympics in August 2016.
The International Yoga Day event this year will be held in Chandigarh on June 21 as the government plans to make it bigger than the maiden show on Rajpath last year, Ayush Minister Shripad Yesso Naik said.The inauguration of a three-day International Yoga Festival in the run up to the second International Yoga Day (IYD). The Union Commerce and Industry Ministry has launched a new service Twitter Seva to address issues and grievances of startups, exporters and importers, and other stakeholders. In this regard, an institutionalised mechanism with a special Twitter cell has been created in the Ministry which is manned by a set of dedicated officers of the Ministry.
Characteristics of Twitter Seva : Twitter Seva will address various queries of startups in a time-bound manner. In it, anyone who wants to access government irrespective of any department, they can put their queries using the hashtag – ‘#mociseva’ on micro blogging site twitter. The Union Commerce and Industry Ministry would try to respond to the queries within 48 to 72 working hours. Queries on matters relating to Department of Commerce and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will be answered through this service. It will also address queries regarding the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), , SEZs, Directorate General of supplies and Disposals, tea, rubber, coffee, spices, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Issues related to manufacturing policy, investment promotion, industrial corridors, Startup India, Make in India, FDI, intellectual property rights will be also addressed.
According to FDI Intelligence Report India has replaced China as the top Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination by attracting $63 billion worth FDI projects in 2015. FDI Intelligence is a division of international media company – The Financial Times Limited.
Highlights of Report : India was the highest-ranked country by capital investment in the year 2015, with 63 billion dollars-worth of FDI projects announced. It was the biggest change in Greenfield FDI in 2015 was near tripling with an estimated 63 billion dollars. There was an 8 per cent increase in project numbers to 697. The boost in FDI has resulted in a whopping increase in job creation from nearly 1 lakh in 2013 to over 2 lakh jobs in 2015. These high-value projects were specifically announced across the coal, oil and natural gas and renewable energy sectors India has replaced China as the top destination for FDI by capital investment following of high-value project announcements

Order of Arts and Letters : The Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) was established in 1957 by French government.The award is to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.The Order of Arts and Letters is presented out three times annually under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Culture and Communication.

The Uttarakhand high court on revoke the imposition of President’ rule in the state and revived the Congress government headed by Harish Rawat, who has been asked to prove his majority on 29 April.Coming down heavily on the Centre for the 27 March proclamation under Article 356, a division bench of the high court headed by chief justice K.M. Joseph said the imposition of the President’s rule was contrary to the law laid down by the Supreme Court.Upholding the disqualification of nine agitator Congress MLAs, the court said they have to pay the price of committing the “Constitutional sin” of defection by being disqualified. The court said the fate of the rebel Congress MLAs was entirely irrelevant and extraneous to the imposition of President’s rule. Ordering restoration of the Rawat government, the court ordered the ousted chief minister to prove his government’s majority on the floor of the Assembly on 29 April.
President's Rule : In the Republic of India, the phrase "President's rule" refers to the imposition of Article 356 of the Constitution of India on a State whose constitutional machinery has failed. In the event that a State government is not able to function as per the Constitution, the State comes under the direct control of the central government; in other words, it is "under President's rule". Subsequently, executive authority is exercised through the centrally appointed Governor, who has the authority to appoint retired civil servants or other administrators, to assist him.
The International Mother Earth Day was on 22 April 2016 observed across the world with the theme ‘Trees for the Earth’. This year's theme sets the goal of planting 7.8 billion trees over the next five years.The Day recognises that the Earth and its ecosystems provide its inhabitants with life and sustenance. It also aims to raise awareness that humans have a collective responsibility to promote harmony with nature and to balance the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations. This year, Earth Day coincided with the signing ceremony for the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which took place at UN Headquarters in New York. The Agreement was adopted by all 196 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at COP21 in Paris on 12 December 2015.
Earth Day : Earth Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1970 and was organised by the Earth Day Network. Its mission was to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment. However, in 2009 the United Nations General Assembly established the International Mother Earth Day under Resolution A/RES/63/278. The Resolution was introduced by The Plurinational State of Bolivia and was endorsed by over 50 member states.It recognized that the Earth and its ecosystems are our home and it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.
Scientists at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram indigenously manufactured the world's lightest synthetic material called ‘silica aerogel’ or ‘blue air’ or ‘frozen smoke’. It was in news in the third week of April 2016.Silica Aerogel is the lightest synthetic material ever made by man.
Characteristics of Silica Aerogel : The material is so light weight that it can be delicately placed on a flower head.It has an excellent thermal resistance and if it is used as filler in soldiers' uniforms it can save many lives at the Siachen glacier.The material can be used both in space and on Earth. Scientists also hope it can be used to insulate rocket engines.Frozen smoke can be also used to make light weight clothing, if painted on windows it can keep buildings cool or warm.The matrix of aerogel is made up of 99 per cent air. The material is likely to be used on moon rover in Chandryaan-2 mission of India. The material is still very fragile and brittle and scientists at the space centre are still finding ways to make it tough and resilient.
