17 October 2016 Current Affairs: World Food Day 2016 was observed across the world on 16 October 2016 with the themeClimate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.

Growing food in a sustainable way means adopting practices that produce more with less in the same area of land. It also means reducing food losses before the retail stage through a number of initiatives including better harvesting, storage, packing, transport, infrastructure and market mechanisms.

Like every year, this year as well a large number of events from marathons to exhibitions, cultural performances, contests and concerts were organised in around 150 countries across the world to celebrate World Food Day.

World Food Day (WFD) : World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October globally in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945.

The Day was established by FAO's Member Countries at the 20th General Conference of FAO in November 1945.

Since then, it is being observed every year in more than 150 countries, raising awareness of the issues behind poverty and hunger.

World Food Day was first celebrated on 16 October 1981.
