University Of Michigan to Collaborate With AIIMS, KMC On Genetic Testing

08 November 2019 Current Affairs: National Institute of Health (NIH) of $2.3 million helps a University of Michigan researcher to collaborate with India's premier health-education institutes, AIIMS and Kasturba Medical College (KMC)Manipal to expand genetic testing in the country. This partnership would help the geneticists to identify and confirm that genetic changes are the basis of developmental disorders. An accurate molecular diagnosis can dramatically improve the care management of individuals with rare developmental disorders and involved treatments. The researcher has been building on the technological and organizational infrastructure needed to improve access to genetic testing in the country for the last four years. Advanced genetic tests are often out of reach of many Indian patients because of the cost, and also because it requires a multidisciplinary group of experts.
