UNESCO's Peace Prize Goes to a Mayor Giuseppina Nicolini

  • UNESCO’s Felix Houphouet-Boigny Peace Prize goes to the European NGO (migrant rescue association) SOS Mediterranee and Lampedusa Mayor Giuseppina Nicolini for their work to save the lives of refugees and migrants.

  • UNESCO’s Felix Houphouet-Boigny Peace Prize, created in 1989

  • Previous Awardees are - Nelson Mandela, Israel’s Shimon Peres and the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, King Juan Carlos of Spain and former US president Jimmy Carter.
