Ukrainian Singer Jamala named as the winner of 2016 Eurovision Contest
17 May 2016 Current Affairs: Jamala, a Ukrainian Singer has won the 2016 Eurovision song Contest in Stockholm. This victory has come to Ukrain after a gap of 12 year as it has won the Eurovision title in 2004 by Ukrainian singer Ruslana. Now under Eurovision rules, the victory means the 2017 contest will take place in the Ukrainian capital- Kiev. 

The contest is the longest-running annual international TV song competition,held, primarily, among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 1956. In this each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition.

Eurovision Song Contest  : The Eurovision Song Contest often shortened to Eurovision, is the longest-running annual international TV song competition, held, primarily, among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 1956. The competition was based upon the existing Sanremo Music Festival held in Italy since 1951.
