Swadheen Kshatriya sworn in as Maharashtra's Chief Commissioner of RTS
02 March 2017 Current Affairs: Former Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Swadheen Kshatriya was on 1 March 2017 sworn-in as the Chief Commissioner of Right to Services (RTS) of Maharashtra. Kshatriya’s tenure will be of five years.Prior to this appointment, Kshatriya retired as Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. Senior IAS officer Sumit Mullick took over as the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra in his place.

His oath of office was administered by Lokayukta Justice (retd) M L Tahiliani at Sahyadri state guest house in Mumbai. State Chief Information Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad, former CIC Suresh Joshi and some of the state’s top bureaucrats were present on the occasion. 

RTS, formed through a Maharashtra state legislation, is entrusted with the task of overseeing delivery of various government services to the people.

 Swadheen Kshatriya

During his tenure as Chief Secretary of Maharashtra of two years and seven months, Maharashtra witnessed the Assembly elections which led to a change in the government after 15 years.

He had served as the Principal Secretary in Chief Minister's office during late Vilasrao Deshmukh's tenure.

 He had also served as the Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Principal Secretary of Maharashtra Revenue department.

 Kshatriya is a 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer
