Protest by a few pro-Tamil activists at the Kathipara Grade Separator near Guindy, which connects several parts of city during the morning peak hour, threw traffic out of gear from Meenambakkam to Saidapet in Chennai on Thursday. The activists led by film director Gowthaman numbering around 15, attempted a road blockade at the fly over at around 9.30am and started to close the road by a long chain and lock. They then squatted on the road and shouted slogans against government for their failure to meet demands of agitating farmers.Mr. Gowthaman said the Centre should constitute Cauvery Water Development Board and should give up methane, hydrocarbon and nuterino projects. The livelihood of farmers and fishermen should be protected. The activists wanted Centre to put an end to the attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy.Mr.Gowthaman said they were forced to protest on the arterial area to grab Centre’s attention on the problems faced by Tamil Nadu farmers and fishermen.Traffic was cleared after the protesters were taken into custody by the Police.
