09 May 2016 Current Affairs: President Pranab Mukherjee has conferred gallantry awards and other distinguished service medals during a defence investiture ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. This was a second defence investiture ceremony. The ceremony saw the introduction of a new tradition to honour soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty as the government has decided that as a mark of respect, the parents of the posthumous award winner can accompany the next of kin to the investiture ceremony.
- Thirteen officers of the armed forces received the Param Vishist Seva Medal
- Four received the Kirti Chakra
- Two were awarded the Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal.
- Two officers received the Bar to the Ati Vishist Seva Medal
- Seven received Shaurya Chakras
- 25 received the Ati Vishist Seva Medal and seven received Shaurya Chakras.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.Indian military decorations :
