President Mukherjee Embarks On Two-Nation Tour To Papua New Guinea And New Zealand
30 April 2016 Current Affairs: President Pranab Mukherjee is embarking on a two-nation tour to Papua New Guinea and New Zealand .A high level delegation including Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan is accompanying the President on the five day visit, which is aimed at energising and upgrading bilateral relations.Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Joint Secretary, South, Jaideep Mazumdar informed that this is the first ever state visit of an Indian President to these two countries.

During the visit to Papua New Guinea, Mukherjee will meet Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and other leaders.

Purpose of Visit  : Part of India’s growing engagement with Pacific Island countries .In 2015, Prime Minister of the Papua New Guinea visited India following the visit of the speaker of the Papua New Guinea Parliament in 2013.

MoU of Two countries : Cooperation in the field of area and medical science,signed four MoUs in myriad sectors to boost ties, India offers $100 million for infrastructure fund.

Singed four MoUs in myriad sectors to boost ties in following Sectors

  1. Agriculture

  2. Health

  3. Information Technology

  4. Infrastructure


India offers $100 million for infrastructure fund : India awarded $100 million line of credit for development of infrastructure and acceded to jointly develop new avenues of cooperation to explore and develop the Pacific nation’s vast oil and gas resources.
