Plain of Jars as Burial Sites

30 April 2021 Current Affairs:The archaeologists these days determined that the jars in the "Plain of Jars" had been used as burial sites. They have also determined that although the jars should be 3,000 years old, the human remains advocate that people had been buried alongside facet these jars 700 years ago, which is relatively recent.

Highlights:
♦ By the view of scientists, the vessels in the Plain of Jars were placed in the late 2nd millennium BCE. The human remains comes from the 13th century. It is feasible that the jars have been continually used as burial sites.
♦ Some also say that these jars had been used for brewing celebratory rice wine and whiskey. These conclusions had been made solely after four jar sites have been studied. There are lots of unexplored jar websites in Laos.
♦ The jars had been made of different rock types such as Conglomerate, Breccia, Limestone, Granite, Sandstone. But the majority of the jars were made up of sandstone.
♦ The Plain of Jars is in Laos. It is a megalithic archaeological landscape. It consists of hundreds of stone jars. These jars are located in the lower foothills of the Xiangkhoang Plateau.
♦ There are greater than ninety Jar web sites in the plateau. Each web page has extra than 400 stone jars. Some of those jars have stone lids as well.

About the Jars
The Jars are cylindrical. The backside of the jar is wider than the top. A French researcher Madeleine Colani concluded in 1930 that the jars had been related to burial practices. This interpretation was once supported with the aid of Japanese and Laos archaeologists with the discovery of human remains. The Plain of Jars grew to be the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.
