Nitin Gadkari to represent India at the 3rd High-Level Global Conference on Road Safety

17 February 2020 Current Affairs:Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs Nitin Gadkari is representing India at the 3rd High-Level Global Conference on Road Safety for Achieving Global Goals 2030 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Organizing team:
The conference is organized in active collaboration with the World Bank, World Health Organisation (WHO) and other agencies who aims to strengthen the capabilities of various institutions.

Aim:
The aim of the conference is to bring road safety on the global agenda and renew the world community's commitment to safer roads. 

Highlights:
♦ Leaders from participating countries will prepare ways to reach the United Nations' goal set under the UN Decade of Action of reducing road crashes by 2030.
♦ The conference highlights the sharing of the expertise by the nations which have gained experience in road safety management with those who are behind in the learning curve. 
♦ The developing countries are focusing on certain specific issues and challenges facing them on account of a significant number of their motorized vehicles consisting of two-wheelers. 

Background:
The conference is a follow up of the 2nd High-Level Global Conference on "Traffic Safety-Time of Results" in 2015 in Brazil. Gadkari signed the Brasilia Declaration on behalf of India at the 2nd High-Level Global in 2015. The declaration committed the world community to reduce the number of deaths in road accidents.
