23 July 2019 Current Affairs: Ministry of Defence has inaugurated two important bridges in the international borders in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu & Kashmir. The bridges were constructed by  Border Roads Organisation (BRO). It was inaugurated by the Defence minister Rajnath Singh. The bridges have been built under the Project Sampark.

Aim:
The project aims for the smooth mobility of the security forces in border areas. The construction of the bridges are vital for the Army for deployment on border areas.

About the bridges:
Ujh bridge:
Ujh bridge is located in the Kathua district of Jammu & Kashmir. It is of length 1,000m and is the longest bridge constructed by the BRO. The cost spent for the construction of the bridge was Rs.50 crore. The bridge has been built on Parole-Korepannu-Rajpura road over Ujh river.
Basantar bridge:
Basantar bridge is located in Samba district of Jammu & Kashmir. It is of length of 617m. The cost of the Basantar bridge was Rs.41.7 crore. The bridge was built on Rajpura-Madwal-Pangadur-Phulpur road over Basantar river. 

Border Roads Organisation (BRO):
Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was established on May 1960. It is headquartered at New Delhi. It functions under the Ministry of Defence. BRO aims to meet the strategic needs of the armed forces. It develops and maintains the Operational Road Infrastructure  of General Staff in  the Border Areas. It also contributes to the social and economic development of the Border States.
