Ministry of Culture Releases Coins on 500th Anniversary of Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu
26 November 2016 Current Affairs: The Culture Ministry released commemorative coins to mark the 500th anniversary of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's arrival in Vrindavan to locate the "lost holy places" associated with Lord Krishna. 

In 1515, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who propagated the worship of Lord Krishna and popularised the chanting of 'Hare Krishna' Mantra', visited Vrindavan with the objective of locating the lost holy places associated with Krishna's transcendental pastimes.

The government is commemorating the 500th anniversary of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's coming to Vrindavan by organising various programmes and exhibitions on his life and teachings in association with Vrindavan Research Institute and ISKCON.
