Microsoft launches cybersecurity engagement centre in India
24 October 2016 Current Affairs: Microsoft has launched its first cybersecurity engagement center (CSEC) in India in the heart of Delhi, which will help the government and the private sector organisations deal with cyberattacks.

An initiative like this is especially important at a time when India is dealing with large-scale cyberattacks on four leading banks' debit cards that has affected as many as 3.2 million customers.

The centre will work in close conjunction with Microsoft's Redmond Digital Crimes Unit (DCU).

Data is becoming the driver of growth and innovation across every sector and will catalyze the fourth industrial revolution. We believe security of critical information is imperative for our corporate customers, just as it is vital to ensure security and privacy of citizen data and transactions... Our cybersecurity investments in the country underline our relentless commitment to partnering India in realising its digital vision.

The Microsoft cybersecurity team identified three main cybersecurity risks over the last year unmanaged and unregulated IT assets usage, procurement and maintenance, poor knowledge of cyber hygiene among users within organisations. The centre will also help expand public/private partnerships in country in the field of cybersecurity.

Microsoft launched a nationwide campaign to increase awareness on cybersecurity to help organizations understand their security requirements better.
