11 May 2016 Current Affairs: Michel Platini on 9 May 2016 resigned as Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president after Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) upheld the ban imposed by FIFA.The CAS rejected the appeal saying it was not convinced about the legitimacy of the payment ordered by ex-FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
However, CAS effectively reduced the ban on him from six years to four and reduced the fine from 80000 Swiss francs to 60000 Swiss francs.He has been UEFA chief since 2007 and he resigned to pursue the case over a suspect 2 million dollar payment in Swiss courts in a bid to clear his name.The upholding of FIFA ban by the CAS effectively ended his career as one of the most powerful figures in sport.
Michel Platini : He was born on 21 June 1955 in Joeuf, France. He played 72 times and captained 50 times for France during 1976-1987. He scored 41 goals.He was regarded as one of the best players in the world at the time.He was a European champion in 1984.
