Maharashtra's IPS officer Meeran Borwankar appointed DG of BPR&D

12 April 2016 Current Affairs GK: Union Government has appointed senior IPS officer Ms. Meeran C. Borwankar as the Director General (DG) in the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D). Her name for this post was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) chaired by Prime Minster Narendra Modi. She will have tenure of till the date of her superannuation i.e. till 30th September 2017. Ms. Borwankar is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1981 batch of Maharashtra cadre.The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) was set up on 28 August 1970 in furtherance of the objective of the Union Government for the modernisation of police forces. It has evolved as a multifaceted, consultancy organisation. At present it has 4 divisions – Research, Development, Training and Correctional Administration.
