Indo-Nepal joint Military exercise ‘Surya Kiran-Xi’ begins in Uttarakhand
08 March 2017 Current Affairs: The two-week long India-Nepal joint military exercise ‘Surya Kiran-Xi‘ begins  in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand on March 7, 2017

To train both the troops in the area of various counter insurgency operations over a prolonged period.

It will also focus on other important aspects such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations and environmental conservation.

The Surya Kiran series of exercises are being conducted biannually, alternatively in India and Nepal. Surya Kiran-X was held in Nepal in December 2016.
