India and United States Agree to Sustain Defence Partnership
11 February 2017 Current Affairs: India and the United States have agreed to maintain the pace of their partnership especially in  the area of the defence ties.

The Defence Secretary James Mattis held a telephonic conversation with the Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar with the commitment to further strengthen the bilateral defence cooperation made in recent years.

This was the first bilateral talk between the two ministers after Mattis was swron in as Defence Secretary in January 2017.

With emphasis on the strategic importance of the US-India relationship and India’s role in advancing global peace and security, the two defence ministers also affirmed their commitment to sustain the momentum on key bilateral defense efforts to include the Defense Technology and Trade Initiative.
