Hubble malfunctions because of gyros failure said NASA
09 October 2018 Current Affairs:

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. space agency, said that the Hubble space telescope is currently out of action because of a gyroscope failure. A gyroscope is a device used for measuring or maintaining orientation and angular velocity. NASA said Hubble went into safe mode because of the failure of another of the six gyroscopes that are used to orient the telescope. Hubble space telescope has been in orbit since 1990.

Hubble is currently down to two working gyroscopes and needs at least three for optimal operations but it can continue to provide observations with just one functioning gyroscope. NASA is working to bring back the last gyro, which had been off, and is being problematic.
