Hornbill Festival is being celebrated in Nagaland

02 December 2019 Current Affairs: The 10-day-long Hornbill Festival of Nagaland began at Kisama, Nagaland on 1 December 2019. The 20th edition of the Hornbill festival was inaugurated by the State Governor R.N. Ravi.

Aim:
The festival aims to pay rich tribute to the Naga leaders, who under extremely challenging circumstances, secured for the people, the Nagaland State with special status. 

Organized by:
The Hornbill festival is organized by the Nagaland State Government. It is an annual tourism promotional event

Hornbill festival:
♦ The festival showcases Nagaland's traditional and rich cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur.
♦ The festival reminds the rich cultural heritage of Naga tribes.
♦ It highlights the need to correct certain uncharitable distortions to Nagas' history by some colonial administrators.
♦ The State government along with Eastern Air  Command (IAF) Shillong organized a display of Sukhoi aircraft flying over Kisama site and headquarter, Eastern Air  Command (IAF) Shillong. 
♦ Stalls were put up at Kisama at the festival.
♦ The festival will witness the cultural performance of different tribes of Nagaland and Northeastern States, art exhibition, indigenous games, night carnival, city tour, photo-fest, among others.
